    摘要: A lash adjuster 10 is disclosed for use in engine valve gear. The adjuster includes a body 40 and a plunger 50 is slidably received in a bore 48 formed in body. A piston 63 is slidably received in the plunger and forms a high pressure chamber 86 within the plunger. A one-way valve means 72 is disposed intermediate the piston and plunger for admitting fluid to the chamber for lash adjustment. An annular retaining clip 90 is seated in a locking position in a groove 106 formed in an outer wall 104 of the plunger body. The clip extends radially beyond the end face of the hub bore 48 thereby preventing fall out of the plunger body prior to assembly in the engine valve gear.

    摘要: A hydraulic lash adjusting tappet (10) for use in engine valve gear of the direct-acting type having one end of the tappet contacting the end (26) of the combustion chamber valve stem (22) and the other end contacting the camshaft lobe (16). The tappet has a body (34) formed with a tubular wall portion (36) having one end thereof closed by an end wall (38) and with a tubular hub (40) therewithin formed integrally with the end wall and extending axially therefrom. A lash adjuster assembly (44) is slidingly received in the tubular hub which defines a reaction surface (50) remote from the cam face reaction surface (18) defined by the end wall. A seal (88) defines an expansible closed fluid reservoir (114) in combination with the body and includes a compliant diaphragm (90) carried about the outer circumferential portion (92) thereof by said body and a sleeve cap (52) insert-molded within the inner circumferential portion (110) of the diaphragm to provide a central portion (104) wear surface interposed, in application, between the lash adjuster reaction surface and the valve stem. In the preferred embodiment the compliant diaphragm has a plurality of circumferentially spaced accumulators (226, 232) for absorbing by flexure thereof, pressure transients in the reservoir and has stiffening ribs (234, 240) integrally formed between the accumulators.

Upper and lower plunger elements (17,19) are disposed within the body and define a low pressure fluid chamber (21). The upper end portion (53) of the lower plunger element (19) defines a series of openings (55) providing fluid communication from the bore (13) into the chamber (21). The bore (13) and the upper plunger element (17) define a radial clearance sufficient that the clearance and the openings (55) comprise substantially the only fluid path from the fluid port (35) to the chamber (21). The invention reduces the machining of the body (11) and the upper plunger (17) which are normally required, thus substantially reducing the cost of the lash adjuster.

    摘要: A hydraulic lash adjuster of the sealed leakdown type in which the plunger assembly (15) is received within a blind bore (13) defined by a body (11). The plunger assembly (15) includes upper (17) and lower (19) plunger elements, to define a low pressure chamber (21) and a high pressure chamber (23). In one embodiment, a dynamic seal member (27) is disposed between the lower plunger element (19) and the bore (13), such that leakdown flow must go from the high pressure chamber (23), past a check ball (53), to the low pressure chamber (21). In order to achieve a more consistent operation of the lash adjuster, the check ball (53) is normally biased toward an open position (FIG. 1) by a compression spring (69), but as flow from the chamber (23) to the chamber (21) increases, the spring force is overcome, and the check ball (53) seats in the desired manner.

    摘要: A hydraulic advance device for selectively transmitting applied forces to a fuel injector of an internal combustion engine. The device is operative to select a normal or advanced timing of the fuel injection. An outer cylindrical body (66) is mounted in the upper end of a fuel injector adapter. An inner body (108) is slidably received in an outer body and a reaction member (103) and pressure responsive plunger (117) are slidably received in a bore formed in the inner body. The plunger and the bore cooperate to define a fluid chamber (128). A one-way valve (132) in the chamber permits fluid above a predetermined pressure applied during the advanced stage of the fuel injection cycle to enter the chamber which prevents movement of the plunger relative to the inner body member. At pressures below a predetermined value and during the normal phase of the fuel injection cycle, the plunger and reaction member first move relative to the inner body a predetermined amount during which time no movement is transferred to the inner body thus delaying fuel injection relative to advance phase fuel injection.

During normal operation, pressure in the low pressure chamber (21) biases the metering pin (73) upward, to a position in which fluid can flow from the chamber (21), through the metering passage (81), to the external surface (71) of the ball plunger (61). When pressure in the chamber (21) is very low, or negative, a head portion (75) is disposed against a seat (69) in the manner of a check valve. The up and down movement of the pin (73) prevents the metering passage (81) from becoming plugged with contaminants.

An upper leg (76) of the spring clip wraps around the guide bar for retention therewith and a lower leg (78) of the spring clip is necked at a point (86) intermediate adjacent cylindrical portions (30 and 32) of the follower boss for retention therebetween.
