摘要: A method and apparatus of calibrating filtering of receive and transmit signals is disclosed. The method of calibrating filtering of a received signal includes injecting an LO signal. The injected LO signal is filtered by a tunable filter. The filtered signal is frequency down-converted with an equivalent LO signal. The frequency down-converted signal is sampled while tuning the filtering. A desired filter tuning is determined based upon the samples and a frequency of the LO signal. The method of calibrating filtering of a transmit signal includes injecting an LO signal to a transmitter. The LO signal is filtered by a tunable filter. The filtered signal is frequency down-converted with an equivalent LO signal. The frequency down-converted signal is sampled while tuning the filter. A desired filter tuning is determined based upon the samples and a frequency of the LO signal.

摘要: A method, computer program product, and data processing system for continuously writing new data to a redundant array of independent storage devices without interrupting the writing of new data to the array to reconstruct missing data from a failed device or failed media is disclosed. A fault-tolerance scheme using multiple independent parity values is used to record data to the array. In the event that one of the volumes in the array fails, the remaining volumes continue being written to, but with fewer data or parity values being employed. The failed volume can then be reconstructed following the completion of writing the media set currently being written.

摘要: This data storage subsystem creates multiple virtual storage devices on demand, which are available to any and all of the system's host data processors. The subsystem utilizes a plurality of tape devices and automated tape libraries with the tape devices connected to a plurality of data processors via a high-speed network. A set of software components, the Network Storage Manager (NSM) controls all system operations. Depending upon the requested storage performance, one or more tape devices are assigned to a virtual device. Data stripping across multiple tape devices allows the storage bandwidth of a virtual device to be changed on demand. The overall capacity and performance of the subsystem is scalable by adding or removing storage devices. The NSM system controller contains a plurality of software elements including: Resource Allocation, Resource Configuration, Resource Management, and Security Management modules. The use of a networked storage manager enables the storage devices to be managed as a pool and yet be attached directly to the network as individual resources. The NSM also provides the mechanism for the enterprise management to control tape device allocation and configuration as well as other functions, such as tape cartridge movement, data migration and data security.

摘要: The network attached virtual tape storage subsystem interconnects a plurality of tape devices with a plurality of data processors via a high bandwidth switching network to implement a virtual, distributed tape data storage subsystem. The virtual, distributed tape data storage system realizes multiple virtual devices, which are available to any of the data processors and the bandwidth of the system is scalable and can be changed on demand. The virtual tape storage subsystem is managed by a system controller which contains a plurality of software elements including: resource allocation, resource configuration, and resource management. The use of a networked storage manager enables the tape devices to be managed as a pool and yet attach the tape devices directly to the network as individual resources. The networked storage manager must provide the mechanism for the enterprise management to control tape device allocation and configuration as well as other functions, such as tape cartridge movement and data migration.

摘要: Scanning probe microscopes and scanning probe heads are provided having improved optical visualization and sample manipulation capabilities. The SPMs and SPM heads include at least one flexure stage for scanning in the x, y and/or z directions. In a preferred embodiment, the SPMs or SPM heads include flexure stages for scanning in the x, y and z directions. The z scanning stage is preferably positioned outside the lateral footprint of the x-y flexure stage so that a probe extending from the z scanning stage is outside the lateral footprint of the instrument. The SPMs and SPM heads are configured to provide top down and bottom up optical views of the sample and/or the probe and enable simultaneous scanning probe microscopy and optical imaging of a sample to be performed. The SPMs and SPM heads are designed to be readily combinable with existing upright and inverted optical microscopes currently available from various major manufacturers.
