摘要: The invention provides a device comprising a movable micromirror adapted to receive light from one or more light source(s) and manipulate the reflected light. The micromirror can be actuated electrothermally. In particular, the micromirror is adapted to do at least one of: (a) tipping along a first axis; (b) tilting along a second axis; (c) changing focal length (i.e., varifocal mode); and (d) elevating (i.e., piston mode). The invention also provides a system comprising at least one device comprising a movable micromirror and at least one light source. The invention can be used in smart lighting applications.

摘要: A method for fabricating an electrode includes forming a 3D shell having a hollow interior and defining one or more openings, and directing an electrically conductive liquid through at least one of the one or more openings of the 3D shell, such that the 3D shell is at least partially filed with the electrically conductive liquid. The electrically conductive liquid can be caused to solidify within the 3D shell to form a solid electrode, or can remain a liquid to form a liquid electrode. The 3D shell can be formed having the one or more openings using a 3D printing process such as a two-photon writing system. The surface tension of the electrically conductive liquid aids in retaining the electrically conductive liquid within the 3D shell. The electrode can contact a tissue sample through one of the openings in the 3D shell.

摘要: A device includes a nozzle including a discharge end for discharging a fluid, a shutter plate including an aperture, the shutter plate positioned at the discharge end of the nozzle, a plurality of tethers coupled to the shutter plate, and a plurality of electrostatic actuators. Each of the plurality of electrostatic actuators are coupled to one or more of the plurality of tethers. The plurality of electrostatic actuators are configured to move the shutter plate between an open position and a closed position relative the discharge end of the nozzle. In the open position, the aperture is in fluid communication with the discharge end of the nozzle to permit fluid from the discharge end of the nozzle to flow through the aperture. In the closed position, at least a portion of the shutter plate inhibits fluid from the discharge end of the nozzle from flowing through the aperture.

摘要: An organic vapor deposition device comprises a print head, comprising a source channel, in fluid communication with a flow of carrier gas and a quantity of organic source material configured to mix with the carrier gas, a nozzle having a deposition outlet, in fluid communication with the source channel, and a shutter configured at least to open and close the deposition outlet, wherein the print heat is configured to allow the flow of carrier gas and the organic source material exit the deposition outlet when the shutter is in an open position, and to prevent the flow of carrier gas and the organic source material from exiting the deposition outlet when the shutter is in a closed position. A method of manufacturing a device comprising an organic feature on a substrate is also described.

摘要: A sensing system, and method of operating same, can act as a highly sensitive gradiometer. A first non-magnetic element, such as a sphere, is driven at a first resonance frequency along an axis. A magnet is attached to a second non-magnetic element, such as a plate, and driven at a second resonance frequency along the axis. The first non-magnetic element and the second non-magnetic element are coupled by a force along the axis, in resonance. The gradiometer is configured to determine a gradient magnetic field acting on one or more of the first non-magnetic element and magnet based on change in at least one resonance characteristic.

摘要: A wavelength-selective add-drop multiplexer is disclosed for adding and/or dropping spectral components from a wavelength-division-multiplexed optical signal. (1.times.1) or (2.times.2) optical switches are used, either alone or in conjunction with other optical elements, to separate spectral components identified for drop from other spectral components.
