    摘要: A novel chemical adsorbate compound capable of forming a monomolecular thin film is provided. The chemical adsorbate compound is transparent and stable in the visible light range, and has a photosensitive group which causes a photochemical reaction in the ultraviolet light range. Utilizing the chemical adsorbate compound, a liquid crystal alignment film is also provided. The liquid crystal alignment film has an excellent thermal stability and alignment control performance. Utilizing liquid crystal alignment film, a liquid crystal display device is further provided. The liquid crystal display device achieves wide viewing angles and clear display images at small driving voltages. These are achieved by, as one example, providing a chemical adsorbate compound including a chalcone derivative having a COO group at the 4′ position in the chalcone skeleton and an —SiX3 group, where X is a halogen, at the molecular end adjacent to the COO group. Another example of the chemical adsorbate compound is a compound in which a linear hydrocarbon group is ether-linked at the 4 position of the benzene ring in the chalcone skeleton and an —SiX3 group, where X is a halogen, is ether-linked to the hydrocarbon group.

    摘要: A thin film forming chemical absorption material including at least a functional group of the formula CF3—CF2—CH2—O—(benzene)—CH=CH—C(O)—(benzene)— and a —SiX group (X represents halogen) as an end group bonded by siloxane bond. The chemical absorption material can form a monomolecular thin-film having photosensitive groups that are transparent and stable in a visible light region and cause photochemical reaction in an ultraviolet region. A liquid crystal alignment film includes an aggregation of adsorption molecules chemically absorbed directly on a surface with electrodes or chemically adsorbed indirectly thereon through another material layer having a characteristic group the formula above and a —O—Si bond group at a molecular end group. The liquid crystal alignment film is uniformly and strongly anchored on the substrate, has excellent thermal alignment stability, alignment controllability, and a film thickness permitting formation with good productivity.

    摘要: A method for producing an alignment chemisorption monomolecular film having high efficiency of washing solution and being excellent in alignment property of molecules constituting the alignment monomolecular film. The method comprises the step of forming a monomolecular film by chemisorption on a hydrophilic surface of a base material by bringing the hydrophilic surface into contact with a silane-based surfactant having a carbon chain or a siloxane bond chain so as to cause a chemical reaction between them, thereby bonding one end of the surfactant molecules to the hydrophilic surface, orienting the base material in a predetermined orientation, and then vapor washing the base material in vapor of an organic solvent, and aligning molecules constituting the monomolecular film by the flow of condensation of the organic solvent formed on the surface of the base material during the vapor washing.

    摘要: The invention provides a method of forming a monomolecular film of fluorine-containing molecules on a substrate surface such that the film has a uniform thickness with minimal surface irregularities and is substantially pin hole free. The invention also provides for a substrate obtained by using the same method which has excellent water- and oil-repelling, anti-fogging, and anti-contaminating properties. The monomolecular film is formed on the substrate surface either directly or via a given protective film. The monomolecular film coating is characterized by a plurality of different chlorosilane-based surface active materials which are different in molecular length and have a fluorine group. The surface irregularities of the film are generally confined to the molecular level.

    摘要: A display device using a cylinder-shaped pixel having a large dipole moment and high response speed and a method for manufacturing the same. In the display device, an organic film is bonded and fixed to a part of or an entire surface of a base material having a volume of less than 1 cm3 via —A—O— bond, where A denotes Si, Ge, Sn, Ti or Zr, or via —A—N— bond, where A denotes Si, Ge, Sn, Ti or Zr, in the former, the side of O is bonded to the substrate and in the latter, the side of N is bonded to the substrate; the surface region of the base material is divided into two regions in accordance with the kind of organic films or the presence or absence of the organic film, and each of the two regions accounting for 40% or more and 60% or less of the surface area of the base material, a plurality of charged substances in different charged states or with opposite polarities in the two regions. The plurality of charged substances are dipped in liquid between a pair of substrates each having an electrode, and voltage is applied to the electrode, thereby enabling the charged substances to be rotated.
