    摘要： A process cartridge which is detachably mountable to a main body of an electrophotographic apparatus, includes an electrophotographic photosensitive member to carry a toner image; an intermediate transfer belt having a contact part with the photosensitive member, and a primary transfer unit to primarily transfer the toner image at the contact part from the photosensitive member to the intermediate transfer belt, being integrally supported in one body. After the contact part is formed by the photosensitive member and the intermediate transfer belt is brought into contact with under a linear pressure of 0.5 N/cm and is left for 10 hours in an environment of 45° C./95% RH, differences in the dark portion potential and the light portion potential of the photosensitive member between the contact part and the non-contact part of the photosensitive member are respectively less than 20%, and no crack having a length of not less than 1 mm occurs in any of the surfaces of the photosensitive member and the intermediate transfer belt. An electrophotographic apparatus having the process cartridge is also disclosed.

    摘要： A process produces a belt-shaped member to be used in an image-forming apparatus is disclosed in which a toner image held on a latent-image-bearing member is electrostatically transferred under application of a voltage via the belt-shaped transfer member. The process includes the steps of melt-extruding a material containing a thermoplastic resin, from a circular die into a cylindrical film; forming the resultant cylindrical film by stretching in such a way that the cylindrical film comes to have a thickness smaller than the die gap of the circular die; and cutting the cylindrical film thus formed, into a seamless belt having a thickness of from 40 &mgr;m to 300 &mgr;m and a modulus in tension of 600 MPa or higher. The stretched cylindrical film is formed to have a thickness not larger than ⅓ of the die gap of the circular die. A belt-shaped transfer member may be produced by the above-described process. The so-produced belt-shaped transfer member is usable as a transfer belt in an image-forming apparatus in which a toner image held on a latent-image-bearing member is electrostatically transferred under application of a voltage via the belt-shaped transfer member.

    摘要： An intermediate transfer member is formed by at least a base layer and a surface layer. The base layer is formed by epichlorohydrin rubber and acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber mixed in a certain weight ratio (preferably 1:9 to 9:1). The surface layer is formed by urethane resin or elastomer and a fluorine-containing compound powder. The fluorine-containing compound powder may preferably be contained in an amount of 20-80 wt. % based on the surface layer. The intermediate transfer member is suitable for full-color image formation by electrophotography and is effective in improving a transfer performance and providing clear images without causing transfer failure even in repetitive use for a long period.

    摘要： An image forming apparatus includes: a first image-bearing member, an intermediate transfer member for receiving an image formed on the first image-bearing member and transferring the image onto a second image-bearing member, pattern-forming means for forming a prescribed pattern on the intermediate transfer member, density detection means for detecting a density of the pattern, and control means for controlling image forming conditions based on the detected density. The intermediate transfer member is set to have a reflectance of 10-70% for light having a wavelength in the range of 700-1500 nm at least in a region thereof for forming the prescribed pattern. As a result, the pattern density detection is suitably performed on the intermediate transfer member for all of yellow, magenta cyan and black, and the detected density data is used for controlling the image forming conditions.

    摘要： A process cartridge integrally supports an electrophotographic photosensitive member, an intermediate transfer belt, primary transferer for transferring a toner image primarily from the member to the belt, a charge provider for providing the toner on the belt with electric charges having a polarity reverse to the polarity the toner has at the time of the primary transfer and returning the toner on the belt to the member at a contact zone to clean the belt, and an electrophotographic-photosensitive-member cleaner. The cartridge is dividable into an electrophotographic photosensitive member unit and an intermediate transfer belt unit and has a joining unit which joins the two units. The peripheral length and average thickness of the belt and the diameter of at least one of rollers over and around which the belt is placed satisfy specific conditions.

    摘要： An image forming apparatus includes a first image-forming member such as an electrophotographic photosensitive member, and an intermediate transfer member for receiving an image formed on the first image-bearing member and transferring the image onto a second image-bearing member such as plain paper. The intermediate transfer member has a surface layer comprising a binder and a powder dispersed therein. The binder is adjusted to have a tensile strength of at least 300 kg-f/cm.sup.2, an elongation of at least 150%, and a tensile stress of at most 250 kg-f/cm.sup.2 at an elongation of 100%. The powder may be a lubricating powder or an electroconductive powder.

    摘要： An image forming apparatus includes a first image-bearing member, latent image-forming unit for forming an electrostatic latent image on the first image-bearing member, developer for developing the electrostatic latent image with a toner to form a toner image, an intermediate transfer member for receiving the toner image by primary transfer and transferring the toner image onto a second image-bearing member by secondary transfer, a charging member for charging a residual toner remaining on the intermediate transfer member after the secondary transfer, and a recovery member for recovering the charged residual toner at a recovery position by voltage application. The intermediate transfer member exhibits a charging characteristic such that it has a surface potential of at most 500 volts as an absolute value at the recovery position. The intermediate transfer member having such a charging characteristic is effective in suppressing an occurrence of electric discharge at the recovery position of the residual toner to provide an excellent cleaning performance.
