Based upon received reselection data, the mobile terminal may release and/or suspend a network resource, such as an enhanced dedicated channel in order to trigger a reselection of a new serving cell. In this regard, a method is provided that includes determining the presence of a reselection condition based on reselection data. In an instance in which the presence of the reselection condition is determined, the method includes causing a network resource to be modified. The method also includes causing a reselection of a serving cell.

Based upon the measurement report, the serving cell may modify the operation of the mobile terminal in order to reduce the potential for neighbor cell interference. In this regard, a method is provided that includes determining two or more parameters indicative of neighbor cell interference. In instance in which the parameters satisfy respective thresholds, the method also causes a measurement report including an indication of at least one of the parameters to be provided to a network element.

The wireless device operates in a first activity state in which data can be transmitted to and received from the wireless network over one or more dedicated logical channels. The wireless device transitions to operate in a second activity state having lower power consumption than the first activity state if it is determined by the wireless device that data has not been transmitted by and has not been received at the wireless device for a predetermined period of time. The predetermined period of time is known to both the wireless device and the network control apparatus. The transition takes place synchronously without requiring control signals to be passed between the wireless device and the network control apparatus.

The method also causes information to be provided regarding the monitored cell or detected cell in response to the event, and then receives a message adding the detected cell to the neighbor list or removing the monitored cell from the neighbor list. Once a detected cell is added to the neighbor list, the method may use the detected cell to determine a frequency quality estimate, use the detected cell for inter-frequency measurements or consider the detected cell for inclusion in a virtual active set.
