    Abstract: There is disclosed a method of operating a receiver arrangement in a radio access network. The receiver arrangement is adapted for receiving a plurality of antenna signals from a plurality of antennas, wherein the plurality of signals is collected to form a collected signal. The method includes transforming the collected signal into beam space based on a transform base, to provide a set of beams, selecting a subset of beams from the set of beams and evaluating the subset of beams for a quality requirement. If evaluating results in the quality requirement not being fulfilled, either the subset of selected beams is changed and it is returned to evaluating or the transform base is changed and it is returned to transforming. The disclosure also pertains to related methods and devices.

    Abstract: Physical layer characteristics, e.g., reference signal density, reference signal distribution, data parameters, etc., are defined in the physical layer for sub-frames of a transmission time interval (TTI) allocated to data packet(s) based on the number of allocated sub-frames. The flexibility provided by the solution presented herein enables the associated wireless system to better define those physical layer characteristics necessary to meet signal quality and system requirements without unnecessarily overburdening the system overhead. Thus, the reference signal overhead may be reduced, which leads to reduced system overhead and/or increased spectrum efficiency.
