    Abstract: A method for controlling a wind turbine system connected to a power grid. The method comprises generating a wind turbine control signal based on a power control reference for controlling a power output of a wind turbine; monitoring an electrical frequency of the power grid; in response to detecting a change in the frequency in the power grid, activating a fast frequency support method comprising the steps of; adjusting the power control reference to cause an overproduction of power by the wind turbine; the overproduction of power causing a transfer of inertial kinetic energy from the wind turbine to electrical power; wherein the power control reference is determined by applying an adaptive gain function to a measurement of a difference in grid frequency from a nominal level.

    Abstract: The disclosure relates to a line commutated converter, LCC, for a high-voltage direct current, HVDC, power converter. The LCC comprises at least one bridge circuit for connection to at least one terminal of a DC system. Each bridge circuit comprises at least two arms, and each arm is associated with a phase of an AC system. Each arm comprises one or more upper thyristor valves and one or more lower thyristor valves connected in series, and a branch extending from between the upper and lower thyristor valves. Each arm further comprises a parallel capacitor module comprising at least one parallel capacitor being connected in parallel between at least one pair of branches comprising a first branch and a second branch wherein during commutation of a flow of current in the first branch to a flow of current in the second branch, the at least one parallel capacitor is configured to discharge current in to the second branch in the same direction as the flow of current in the second branch.

    Abstract: A Voltage Sourced Converter, VSC, for a High Voltage Direct Current, HVDC, power converter, the VSC comprises a bridge circuit for each of one or more phases of an AG network. The bridge circuit has two arms, each arm connecting the supply to a pole of a DC terminal, wherein each arm of the bridge circuit has one or more semiconductor modules capable of being switched between an on-condition, in which a capacitor of the module is in-line in the arm of the bridge circuit, and an off-condition, in which the capacitor is out of line. A DC current fault detection arrangement detects a fault arising at one or the other of the poles of the DC terminal within the DC converter or the DC grid. A controller responsive to the detection of the DC current fault switches one or more of the semiconductor modules in one of the arms of the bridge to the on and one or more of the semiconductor modules of the other arm of the bridge circuit to the off-condition.

    Abstract: A Voltage Sourced Converter, VSC, for a High Voitage Direct Current, HVDC, power converter, the VSC comprises a bridge circuit for each of one or more phases of an AG network. The bridge circuit has two arms, each arm connecting the supply to a pole of a DC terminal, wherein each arm of the bridge circuit has one or more semiconductor modules capable of being switched between an on-condition, in which a capacitor of the module is in-line in the arm of the bridge circuit, and an off-condition, in which the capacitor is out of line. A DC current fault detection arrangement detects a fault arising at one or the other of the poles of the DC terminal within the DC converter or the DC grid.
