    摘要: A reader for radio frequency identification tags having at least one magnetic field transmitting and receiving coil which is oriented in a given plane and which is responsive to a received magnetic exciter field of a first frequency to produce and radiate an identifying magnetic field comprised of a carrier at a second different frequency modulated by an identifying code. The reader comprises a first circuit for producing a radio frequency signal of the first frequency; a first magnetic field coupling arrangement connected to the output of said first circuit for producing a corresponding exciter field at the first frequency to be magnetically coupled to the receiving coil of the tag, with the first magnetic field coupling arrangement including a solenoidal exciter coil having at least one wound exciter winding and a longitudinal axis disposed substantially perpendicular to the plane of the tag coil; a second magnetic field coupling arrangement for receiving a magnetic field of the second frequency produced by the tag and providing a corresponding electrical signal, with the second magnetic field coupling arrangement including at least one receiver coil disposed adjacent one end of the solenoidal coil; and circuitry connected to the receiver coil for decoding the received electrical signal. Preferably the tag is disposed on the lid of a trash or waste bin with the tag coil being substantially horizontal and the axis of the exciter coil is disposed substantially vertically.

    摘要: A proximity detection system which combines the advantages of an electrostatic (electric) field coupling mechanism with those of an electromagnetic coupling mechanism in order to overcome the disadvantages of the respective individual coupling mechanisms. The system includes a coded tag which is excited with an induction field, i.e., by using an electromagnetic coupling mechanism as has been done in the past in such proximity identification systems, but which transmits stored data back to the receiver using both an electric field coupling mechanism and an electromagnetic field coupling mechanism. The receiver, in turn, is provided with a novel preamplifier circuit arrangement, so that it can simultaneously receive signals via either or both of these coupling mechanisms.

    摘要: A method, apparatus and system for radio frequency identification provides an on-off keyed amplitude-modulated illumination signal containing a sequence of bits configured to illuminate a radio frequency identification (RFID) tag, The illumination signal is received at the RFID tag, rectified to generate a wake signal for waking a processor which is subsequently powered by a battery. The received illumination signal is sampled and subjected to a thresholding process. Mobile telephone band interference is countered by correlating the sampled illumination signal to determine its bit sequence and then correlating the bit sequence against a predetermined key. An identification signal from the RFID tag is sent in response to a match.

    摘要: A quasi-stationary electric field is produced by means of an oscillator whose output is connected to a field wire which is positioned within the area to be protected and the electric field is detected by an antenna whose output is connected to an amplifier. An AM detector is connected to the output of the amplifier and the output of the AM detector is connected via a lowpass filter to a high gain amplifying means including a bandpass filter arrangement so that at the output of this high gain amplifier only signals within the relatively low frequency range associated with movement of an intruder are present. The output signal from the high gain amplifier is fed to a threshold circuit which produces an output signal whenever the input signal thereto exceeds a predetermined threshold value, and this output signal is fed to an alarm producing circuit. The frequency of the electric field is in the range from about 1 to 40KHz and is approximately midway between two successive harmonics of the frequency of the a.c. power existing in the vicinity of the area to be protected in order to decrease the possibility of false alarms. Additionally other techniques for reducing the possibility of false alarms and for extending the utility of such a system are disclosed.

The RFID reader includes an RFID controller, an excitation signal transmitter, a response signal receiver, an optional RFID device detector, a host interface input/output, and a user interface. The method includes establishing a first power consumption level for the RFID reader, establishing a second power consumption level that is different from the first, and changing between the first level and the second level. The difference between the first level and the second level is derived from at least one technique for power consumption management. A plurality of techniques are presented. Among the potential benefits to reduced power consumption are increased energy efficiency and reduced radiated emissions. The option of choosing between power consumption levels presents unique opportunities in system design, implementation, and operation.

    摘要: Apparatus for selectively reading or writing data on a magnetic data stripe on a data card which is thin and flexible and for selectively returning or capturing the card. The apparatus includes a card guide arrangement comprising a cylindrical card guide path section, an entrance card path section with an entrance slit for admitting the data card, and an exit path section with an exit slit for discharging the data card for capture. A drive arrangement drives the data card through the entrance slit, throughout the cylindrical card guide path section, and through the exit slit. A transducer with a read head and write head is mounted relative to the cylindrical card guide path section. A position tracking arrangement determines the position of the data card within the cylindrical card guide and a card-in sensor senses the presence of a data card in the entrance path section. A microprocessor based control circuit is used to operate the system and control operational features.

    摘要: A motion detection apparatus indicates the presence of an object in a given area by sensing the change in electrostatic charge in the area caused by the disturbance of the electric field within the range of the apparatus. An antenna, which may take a number of different forms, is placed at a convenient location within the area to be monitored, and the output of the antenna is connected in a shielded manner to the input of a shielded high gain amplifier with a very high impedance-low leakage current input stage and which has a filter connected thereto having a cut off frequency of up to approximately 20Hz. Connected to the output of the amplifier is a circuit, which may include a power line frequency filter, which produces an output signal, for example, an alarm, whenever the amplitude of the output signal from the amplifier exceeds a predetermined value.
