Abstract:
A flying disk toy comprising a substantially planar disk configured to rotate about a central axis in sustained flight and a centrifugally activated sound generator associated with the disk is disclosed. The disk includes a cylindrical wall perpendicularly projecting from the plane of the disk and which is centrally disposed on the disk relative to its central axis. The centrifugally activated sound generator comprises two diametrically opposed centrifugal switches in series connection, each comprising a radially extending, axially inclined ramp, a pair of electrical contacts symmetrically disposed on opposite sides of the ramp in spaced apart relationship and an electrically conductive weight movably supported on the ramp. The weight has a diameter greater than the minimum spacing of the electrical contacts and centrifugal force resulting from the rotation of the disk in flight causes the weight to displace into both electrical contacts, thereby establishing an electrical closed circuit and energizing the sound generator.
Abstract:
An apparatus is provided whereby a standard percussive-type downhole drill may be utilized in directional drilling. This eliminates the need for less efficient tri-cone type downhole motors in this application. A motor is provided directly on top of the hammer at the end of the drill string, which both rotates the hammer and allows the passage of compressed air to the hammer for its piston operation. A preferred embodiment of the motor is an air-driven turbine with a replaceable connecting subassembly to link the motor shaft to the hammer apparatus.
Abstract:
An electrical musical instrument amplifier is disclosed in which a signal which has been provided by an instrument to a second one of two different preamplifiers for amplification therein is passed to one of the inputs of a summing amplifier together with the output of the first preamplifier, the output of the summing amplifier being coupled through a tube driven power amplifier to a loudspeaker system. The amplified signal from the second preamplifier is applied to a second input of the summing amplifier via a circuit arranged as a voltage divider and having a variable resistance provided by a field effect transistor driven by an oscillator. The modulation provided by the field effect transistor and associated oscillator can be adjusted to provide total phase reversal as well as amplitude modulation when combined with the signal at the output of the second preamplifier, to provide a tremolo or vibrato effect. Improved reverberation control is provided by a control common to the volume controls of both a delayed reverberation signal from the second preamplifier and the combined signal which results when the instrument signal from the second preamplifier is combined with the delayed reverberation signal. The power amplifier can be operated in a distortion mode to achieve desirable harmonics without overloading the voice coils in an attached speaker system through use of a power supply which applies reduced voltages to the power amplifier whenever the gain of the power amplifier is adjusted to a high setting while at the same time regulating the voltage applied to the first and second preamplifiers to keep such voltage constant.
Abstract:
A multi-sectional percussive drill bit assembly for drilling holes in earth formation primarily used in conjunction with a pneumatic percussive device. The drill bit assembly is comprised of an easily removable bit that is rotationally driven by a lug and pocket structure and axially limited in travel by means of retaining members.
Abstract:
An alarm condition sensor for triggering a signal incorporated in an alarm system and adapted to be mounted on a motor vehicle or other object to protect it against burglary, theft, tampering, or the like. The sensor comprises a sensing mass mounted atop a deformable substrate equipped with piezoelectric material operable to generate a signal voltage upon stressing or deformation of the substrate in response to forces effecting relative movement between the mass and the substrate. The sensor may be mounted on a cantilever spring support which enables the mass to move and thereby stress the substrate and generate a signal voltage. Voltage sensitive means responsive to voltages generated by the piezoelectric material is operable to trigger the alarm system. The sensitivity of the sensor is adjustable to vary the threshold value of the voltage operable to activate the alarm.

Abstract:
A back brace apparatus disclosed which has electromechanical means for tightening a brace around the trunk of a patient to a desired tension. The electromechanical means is controllable by the patient to effect predetermined tension settings. A cable and pulley arrangement tightened by a motor provides a mechanical advantage so that the brace may be tightened by a small motor. A microprocessor controls the motor to obtain the desired repeatable tension settings.

A corset-type back brace apparatus is disclosed which has electromechanical means for tightening a corset around the trunk of a patient to a desired tension. The electromechanical means includes a pair of motor driven rollers which are controllable by the patient to effect predetermined tension settings.
