    摘要: An exemplary method for selecting one of a plurality of systems on a multi-mode device capable of communicating on a first air interface technology and a second air interface technology is disclosed. Initially, a carrier input associated with one of the first and second air interface technologies is received. The carrier input typically defines at least one system selection event. Next, a first network acquisition attempt of the other one of the first and second air interface technologies is triggered responsive to the system selection event. The results of the first network acquisition attempt are determined and stored, and subsequently used for subsequent system selection determinations between the first and second air interface technologies.

If a call attempt is placed when a transfer threshold has been exceeded, candidate transferring terminals are identified based on multi-mode capabilities and network conditions. One or more of the candidate transferring terminals engaged in calls that have a priority level less than the priority call are transferred from the originating wireless network to the alternate technology wireless network when the transfer threshold is exceeded.

    摘要: A mobile station configured to perform a soft handoff. The mobile station comprises a receiver and a smart antenna module. The receiver is configured to receive a plurality of similar RF signals that comprises a plurality of first RF signals generated by a serving base station or first base station transmitter, and a plurality of second RF signals generated by a second base station transmitter. The smart antenna module comprises a means for classifying the similar RF signals from the second base station transmitter as an interference signal when the first RF signals exceeds a first threshold. Additionally, the mobile station comprises a means for reclassifying the interference signal from the second base station transmitter as a desired signal when the first RF signals generated by the serving base station are below the first threshold. The mobile station also comprises a second threshold, which triggers an instruction to transmit a first signal strength associated with the first RF signals and a second signal strength associated with the second RF signals to the first base station. The mobile station then receives an instruction from the first base station transmitter to simultaneously demodulate and combine similar RF generated by the first base station transmitter and the second base station transmitter.

    摘要: To improve WWAN coverage, an access node broadcasts overhead messages on a first channel covering a first channel environment and a second channel covering a second channel environment within a coverage region. The overhead messages carry network overhead parameters for allowing wireless mobile devices to acquire and maintain traffic channels within the cellular system. The overhead message channels are configured so that a user perceives uninterrupted wireless services while moving through different channel environments in the coverage region. In one embodiment, the overhead message channels are separate physical channels configured with different broadcast parameters to provide coverage in different environments. In another embodiment, the overhead parameter information is segregated into base and extended components that are encoded and layer modulated onto separate logical channels. Using layered modulation, wireless mobile devices can receive base components in poor coverage regions. The base components include overhead parameters for acquiring a WWAN channel.

    摘要: A common group cell identifier is transmitted by adjacent base stations. Handover processing is minimized for mobile relays traveling along a predetermined path that traverses the adjacent base stations. A first base station along the path transmits a group cell identifier and a first single cell identifier within a first service area. An adjacent base station transmits the group cell identifier and a second single cell identifier within a second service area that at least partially overlaps the first service area. The mobile relay monitors the group cell identifier in certain situations and only performs a handover when the group cell identifier changes. As a result, no handovers are initiated as the mobile relay travels down the path since the group cell identifier transmitted by the base stations along the path are the same.

    摘要: An apparatus, system, and method dynamically adjust an antenna network frequency response in accordance with an operation mode of a half duplex call. One of a plurality of antenna network configurations is selected based at least partly on the half duplex operation mode which comprises a talk mode and a listen mode. When the portable communication device is in a listen mode, the antenna network is tuned to a reception configuration which results in a reception efficiency that is greater for at least a portion of a reception frequency band than the reception efficiency resulting from at least one other antenna network configuration. The antenna network is maintained in a default configuration unless antenna adjustment conditions are met. In some situations, the antenna network is set to a transmission configuration to improve transmission efficiency relative to the default configuration.
