Abstract:
A process for making polyetherimides is provided by melt polymerizing a mixture of certain aromatic bis(etheranhydride)s and organic diamines. The polyetherimides can be reinforced with various fillers to produce high performance composites.
Abstract:
A method is provided for making polyetherimides involving the reaction of aromatic bis(ether anhydride)s and organic diamines in the presence of a phenolic solvent. The resulting polyetherimide-phenolic solvent mixture can be employed as a wire coating enamel.
Abstract:
A method is provided for making polyetherimides involving the reaction of aromatic bis(etheranhydride)s and organic diamines in the presence of an inert nonpolar organic solvent at temperatures of at least 130.degree. C. The polyetherimides are useful as injection molding compounds.
Abstract:
A process for making polyetherimides is provided by melt polymerizing a mixture of organic diamines and certain aromatic bis(etherdicarbonyl) compounds such as aromatic tetra-carboxylic acids and dianhydrides thereof. The polyetherimides can be made in a continuous manner. Fillers can be incorporated into the polyetherimides to produce high performance composites.
Abstract:
Reinforced thermoplastic molding compositions are provided comprising a high molecular weight linear polyester, such as poly(1,4-butylene terephthalate) and another high molecular weight polyester, such as poly(ethylene terephthalate), in combination with talc and one or more reinforcing agents or fillers.
Abstract:
A novel process is disclosed for the preparation of copolyesters containing both carboxylate and carbonate groups. The process comprises reacting a carbonyl halide with a difunctional carboxylic acid and a dihydroxy compound in a reaction media which comprises water and a water immmiscible solvent in the presence of a tertiary amine.
Abstract:
A novel process is disclosed for the preparation of polyester carbonates containing both carboxylate and carbonate groups. The process is based on the making of a mixed polyanhydride ester of a dibasic acid which is reacted with a dihydroxy compound to form a hydroxy containing intermediate that is subsequently transformed into a polyester carbonate by means of a carbonate forming reagent.
Abstract:
Foamable blends are provided of high performance thermoplastic polymers such as polyphenylene oxides, polystyrenes, etc., and an effective amount of a first blowing agent which is an amide derivative of azodicarboxylic acid and a second blowing agent which is a dihydrooxadiazinone.
Abstract:
A thermoplastic molding composition having improved impact strength is provided, the composition comprising a thermoplastic resin selected from (i)a poly(1,4-butylene terephthalate)in combination with a poly(ethylene terephthalate)resin, mineral-filled, or (ii) a poly(1,4-butylene terephthalate) co-aromatic/aliphatic polyester, reinforced and/or mineral-filled, and a minor, effective amount of a copolymer of ethylene and vinyl acetate or a terpolymer of ethylene, vinyl acetate and methacrylic and/or acrylic acid.
