Abstract: Embodiments are directed to a fluid-emission device. An example fluid-emission device includes a tubular body, a fluid-source coupler, and a tip member disposed opposite the tubular body from the fluid-source coupler. A fluid-transmission lumen in the tubular body fluidly couples the tip member to the fluid-source coupler. The tip member includes a plate having a plurality of fluid-emission lumens that fluidly couple the fluid-transmission lumen to an environment outside the tubular body. The tip member includes a spearhead disposed opposite the plate from the fluid-transmission lumen. The tip member has a spacer disposed between the plate and the spearhead to separate the spearhead from the fluid-emission lumens. The fluid-emission device can be used by inserting the tip member into material and delivering fluid to a target, such as delivering water or fertilizer to plant roots or the like.

Abstract: In a method for measuring a dimension or angle of a scattering feature of an optical device, such as a photonic crystal, at least part of the array is irradiated with light. A characteristic of light scattered from the array is detected. A comparison algorithm is run on the detected characteristic of the scattered light. The comparison algorithm provides one or more numerical values indicative of the measured dimension or angle. A system for measuring a dimension or angle of a feature of an optical device includes a light source and optics for focusing light from the light source onto a target area of the optical device. A light detector is positioned to detect scattered light from the target area, with the detected light used to create a measured light characteristic. A computer linked to the light detector performs a comparison algorithm on the measured light characteristic and outputs a numerical value of the dimension or angle measured. In method for designing an optical device, such as a photonic crystal for use on an LED, an intended scattered response based on light emission characteristics desired from the optical device is simulated. One or more design parameters of the optical device are varied. An interim reflectance response of the optical device with variation of the parameters is determined. Interim scattered responses are compared to the intended scattered response. One or more scattered responses which match the intended scattered response are selected. An optical device is designed using one or more of the design parameters associated with the selected interim scattered response.

Abstract: A clock source selector for selecting either a first clock signal A or a second clock signal B in accordance with a switch request signal includes three retiming circuits each consisting of two clocked flip-flops. The switch request signal is first retimed relative to clock A to give a signal P, is then retimed relative to clock B to give a signal Q, and finally is retimed relative to clock A to give a signal R. Selector circuitry operates such that when signal Q is asserted, the second clock signal B is output, when neither signal P nor signal R, as combined by a NOR gate, are asserted, the first clock signal A is output, and at other times a zero level is output. The clock source selector can be used in an integrated circuit to form a glitch-free multiplexer.

Abstract: A semiconductor integrated circuit for processing content data by encrypting or decrypting the data has one or more inputs to received content and metadata. A metadata store comprises two portions, a first portion for storing metadata itself and a second portion for storing an address of locations of bitfields of metadata. This arrangement allows for efficient storage of the metadata but requires certain rules to ensure that bitfields of metadata cannot be stored and used with anything other than the content with which the metadata is associated.
