    摘要: The present invention provides a difluoromethyl ether derivative which shows various suitable physical properties as a liquid crystal compound, a liquid crystal composition comprising the compound and a liquid crystal display element containing the composition, and also provides a simple and efficient process for producing the difluoromethyl ether derivative. According to the present invention, a process for producing a difluoromethyl ether derivative represented by Formula (1d): wherein the variables are defined in the specification, is characterized by using an &agr;&agr;-difluorocyclohexylidene derivative represented by Formula (1a): wherein R1, rings A1 and A2, Z1, Z2, k and l have the same meanings as defined in the specification, as a starting material.

    摘要: There is provided a liquid crystalline compound having a high voltage holding ratio which has a very small degree of temperature dependence, a low threshold voltage which has a very small degree of temperature dependence, a high &Dgr;n, and excellent miscibility with other liquid crystal materials at low temperature; a liquid crystal composition; and a liquid crystal display element, and the liquid crystalline compound is a substituted benzene derivative represented by general formula (1), where, R represents a straight chain or branched alkyl group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms in which each of optional and nonadjacent methylene groups (—CH2—) may be substituted by an oxygen atom; X represents a halogen atom, —CF3, —CF2H, —CFH2, —OCF3 or —OCF2H; each of Z1 and Z2 independently represents —(CH2)2—, —(CH2)4—, —CH2O—, —OCH2— or a covalent bond, but Z1 and Z2 are not covalent bonds simultaneously; each of Y1, Y2, Y3, Y4, Y5, and Y6 independently represents H or F, but at least one of Y1, Y2, Y3, and Y4 represents F.

    摘要: Provided are liquid crystalline compounds having a wide liquid crystal phase temperature range, low viscosity, a large elastic constant ratio K33/K11 and excellent solubility at low temperature, a liquid crystal composition using the same and a liquid crystal display. Preferred compounds are difluorovinyl compounds represented by Formula (1): wherein Y1, represents H or a straight chain or branched alkyl group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, and optional —CH2— in the above alkyl group may be replaced by —O— or —CH═CH—, but —O— is not adjacent to each other, and at least one H in Y1 may be substituted with halogen or a cyano group: A1, A2, A3 and A4 each independently represent 1,4-cyclohexylene in which optional —CH2— which is not adjacent to each other may be replaced by —O—, 1,4-phenylene in which optional H may be substituted with halogen, and a single bond, in which at least two of A1, A2, A3 and A4 have the ring structure described above, and at least one of them is 1,4-cyclohexylene in which —CH2— is replaced by —O—; Z1, Z2 and Z3 each independently represent a single bond, —(CH2)2—, —CH═CH—, —(CH2)4—, —O(CH2)3— or —(CH2)3O—; n represents 0 or an integer of 1 to 10, provided that when any of A1, A2, A3 and A4 is 1,4-phenylene, Z1, Z2 and Z3 are single bonds, and among them, when A1 is 1,3-dioxane-2,5-diyl and A2 is 1,4-phenylene and when A3 is 1,4-cyclohexylene and A4 is a single bond, Y1 is H, and n is not 0.
