Abstract:
A method for generating a programme for presentation to a user such that the presented programme is made up from a sequence of programme elements each of which is a programme clip taken from at least one distributed programme and each of which represents an event. Each programme element is classified on the basis of the event represented by the programme element. Each programme element is stored with at least one associated programme element classification code, and each classification code identifies a class to which the event represented by the associated programme element has been allocated. A programme is assembled for presentation to the user by selecting at least one programme classification code, and generating an assembled programme in the form of a sequence of programme elements associated with the at least one programme classification code. Programme elements are classified using a set of event classes including a plurality of subsets of the event classes. Classification of each programme element comprises a classification operator malting at least one selection from at least one of the subsets, said selection determining at least one of the subsets from which future selections can be made. The at least one selection generates the classification code associated with the programme element.
Abstract:
A method of distributing video data comprising defining a plurality of programme elements, each programme element comprising a video clip taken from said video data. Each programme element is allocated to one of a predetermined plurality of classes, each class having an associated icon. Data representing a plurality of icons is transmitted to a receiver, each icon representing a class to which a respective one of said plurality of programme elements is allocated. User selection data indicative of a user selection of at least one icon is received, and data associated with the or each programme element associated with the user selection data is transmitted to the receiver. A method for generating video data, and a method for presenting video data are also disclosed.
Abstract:
A method of presenting at least one programme element to a user. The method comprises receiving user specification of at least one classification code representing programme element content of interest, and receiving from a transmitter plurality of programme elements, each programme element having a respective classification code. Received classification codes are screened to identify programme elements associated with the specified at least one classification code, and identified programme elements are stored together with their respective classification codes. User selection of at least one classification code is received, and at least one programme element associated with the user selected at each one classification code is presented to the user.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for generating a programme for presentation as a sequence of programme elements from a set of pre-recorded programme elements which may be transmitted to a receiver. Programme elements each representing for example an event are classified on the basis of programme element content, that is the nature of the event to which the programme element relates. Each programme element is allocated to at least one of the predetermined set of classes and each programme element is stored with at least one associated programme classification code. The classification codes identify the class to which the associated programme element has been allocated. A programme element is generated by selecting at least one programme classification code and presenting programme elements associated with that selected at least one programme classification code. Users are able to generate programmes based on for example the perceived value of individual programme elements.
