摘要: Systems and methods for providing respiratory therapy are disclosed. The system includes a nebulizer operable to aerosolize a medicament, a cylindrical mixing chamber, an impacting cap and a recirculation tube. The mixing chamber has an inlet port, an outlet port, an aerosol port in fluid communication with the nebulizer, and a drainage port. The inlet port receives a flow of breathing gas. The mixing chamber receives the aerosol via the aerosol port, entrains aerosol into the flow of breathing gas, and delivers the breathing gas entrained with aerosol to the outlet port. The impacting cap receives and coalesces a portion of the aerosol into droplets within the space defined by the mixing chamber and the impacting cap. The mixing chamber is also configured to direct rain-out resulting from the droplets to the drainage port. The system also includes a recirculation tube to return the rain-out to the nebulizer.

摘要: A cannula for providing respiratory therapy to a patient includes a first nasal prong having a proximal end attached to a cannula body and a distal end for insertion into a nare of the patient. The first nasal prong defines a lumen for a flow of breathing gas from a source of breathing gas to the nare of the patient, and the first nasal prong has a variable geometry such that a cross-sectional area of the lumen at the distal end of the first nasal prong varies with a flow rate of the breathing gas. Varying the cross-sectional area of the first nasal prong lumen with the flow rate of the breathing gas enables the first nasal prong to maintain a high velocity flow to the nare for effective flushing of the patient's airway.

摘要: Provided herein are devices, systems, and methods for introducing a nebulized medication into breathing gas for respiratory therapy. An apparatus includes a reservoir to contain a volume of medication, a vibrating mesh disposed at a reservoir outlet of the reservoir to receive a flow of the medication from the reservoir and output a flow of nebulized medication, a mixing chamber having a gas inlet to receive a flow of breathing gas from a gas source, and a nebulizer inlet to receive the flow of nebulized medication from the vibrating mesh, where the vibrating mesh is disposed between the nebulizer inlet and the reservoir outlet. The apparatus can include a pressure tap tube or other implement in fluid communication with the mixing chamber and the reservoir to selectively equalize pressure between the mixing chamber and a headspace in the reservoir above the volume of medication.

摘要: Systems, methods, and devices for humidifying a breathing gas using a vapor transfer unit are presented. The method includes providing a first vapor transfer unit having a gas passage and a liquid passage, delivering a liquid to the liquid passage, delivering a gas to the gas passage, humidifying the gas by delivering vapor from the liquid in the liquid passage to the gas in the gas passage, exiting the humidified gas outside the vapor transfer unit at first relative humidity and at a high gas flow rate, and reducing the gas flow rate through the first vapor transfer unit to less than a low gas flow rate, while preventing the relative humidity from exceeding the first relative humidity by more than an acceptable margin.

摘要: Systems, methods, and devices are disclosed for manufacturing a vapor transfer cartridge with a constant inner diameter to maximize the area available for fibers required for heating and humidifying a breathing gas. In one aspect, a vapor transfer cartridge includes a center tube extending along a first axis from a first to a second end, having a continuous inner diameter, a first header piece configured as a cap and including a channel about an inner circumference of the header piece coupled to the first end of the center tube, a second header piece coupled to the second end of the center tube, and a plurality of fibers arranged along the axis of the center tube from the first end to the second end. The first header piece further includes a first port, and a baffle.

摘要: Devices and methods are provided herein for sensing and monitoring of patient breathing during high flow respiratory therapy. A nasal cannula having a sensing lumen and remotely-located pressure sensor is provided herein for breath sensing that provides an accurate and clear signal while high flow rates of breathing gas are delivered from the nasal cannula. Condensation can be removed from the sensing lumen by applying a constant, pulsatile, or burst flow of purge gas. The breath sensing apparatus can be integrated in a respiratory system with a breathing gas source or can be packaged as a separate device capable of adapting to a variety of systems.
