A head assembly for an electro-erosion machine tool comprises, in a housing, a guide for guiding the moving filamentary or strip-form tool electrode and first contact means for supplying erosion energy to the electrode. The scavenging medium is fed into the housing so as to cool the contact means and guide, and leaves it by way of a nozzle through which also the electrode leaves the housing on its way to another head assembly arranged on the opposite side of the location where machining is performed, the scaverging medium being thereby fed to the machining location as an envelope coaxial to the electrode. Second contact means for contacting the workpiece to be machined are fixed to the nozzle and the connections to each contact means are arranged for low inductive energy loss.

The deflection of the wire, due to elongation thereof as a result of heating, differences in manufacturing technologies and the like, is sensed and fed back to the motors driving the advancing and pulling rotors to maintain the tension, as controlled by the motor torques and speeds at a uniform value.

In the electroerosive machining of workpieces with the aid of a tool electrode, a pulse-like d.c. voltage is applied between the workpiece and electrode, the applied voltage being in the form of pulse groups where the pulse groups are formed of individual pulses having current amplitudes of selected magnitudes. Preferably, the individual current pulses belonging to the pulse group have successively rising amplitudes. Several individually controllable power switching circuits are connected in parallel to the work gap. The primary side of a pulse transformer connected to each power switching circuit is driven by a control device for the time shaping of the pulse groups. At least one controlled switch belonging to each power switching circuit is connected to a second control device for shaping the current pulse amplitudes.

A prophylactic (prophy) paste composition comprising about 40 percent by weight to about 55 percent by weight expanded perlite comprising perlite granules in the range of about 20 μm to about 70 μm and floaters. The prophy paste composition further comprises no more than 5 percent by weight of a surfactant, and greater than about 10 percent by weight water. In some embodiments, the inventive paste also contains a humectant and optionally, may contain coloring agents, preservative agents, alcohol, flavoring agents, viscosity increasing agents, and sodium fluoride. The present invention also provides methods for controlling the floater content of the expanded perlite used in the inventive paste and methods of packaging the expanded perlite paste composition in a tube. The present invention also provides a prophy paste product comprising the inventive prophy paste contained within a squeezable tube.

The adhesion of dental restorative materials, more particularly of composite materials containing an organic binder, to dental instruments can be reduced, essentially independently of the material of which the dental instrument is made, by providing the working surfaces with impressions. These impressions result in a reduction of the contact surface of the composite material on the working surface and thus in a reduction of the component of the adhesion which is due to physical attraction, e.g. to the van der Waals force. If the impressions are sufficiently small, a penetration of the composite material into the impressions is prevented by the high viscosity of the latter alone. If additionally the impressions are capable of being sealed by the tooth replacement material in contact therewith, an air cushion forms in the impressions which additionally counteracts a penetration of the tooth replacement material.
