    摘要: An apparatus and a method for generating seismic waves utilizes a heavy flywheel positioned for rotation in a vertical plane to generate and store energy which is then transferred to the ground. The device includes two balanced hammers mounted on the flywheel as impact members. In operation, the flywheel is spun to a predetermined speed and then, on command, the hammers are extended outward from the flywheel so that one hammer strikes either a vertical or a horizontal strike member, thus providing a rapid transfer of a large amount of kinetic energy to the ground resulting in the generation of a set of seismic waves.

    摘要: A nozzle or tube which is useful for pouring molten metal, especially aluminum killed molten steel. The nozzle is formed from a blend of doloma and graphite which is bonded together in a carbonized matrix. Nozzles or tubes made in accordance with this invention have enhanced thermal shock resistance. Furthermore, the nozzles or tubes of this invention resist the formation of aluminum oxide therein when they are used for pouring molten aluminum killed steel. Consequently, these tubes or nozzles can be used in a continuous casting process for a long period of time without having to periodically stop the procedure and change the tubes as they become blocked with aluminum oxide. As a result of the thermal shock resistance, the usual preheating step prior to contacting the nozzle with the molten metal is greatly reduced.

    摘要: An apparatus and method for soil remediation replaces specific ions in the soil electrochemically, using a DC voltage source and special multicompartment anodes and cathodes, each comprising an inner compartment containing electrolyte and a submerged electrode, a salt bridge connecting the electrolyte to an outer compartment containing a specific solution with replacement ions for soil remediation, and a membrane holding in the replacement solution. The membrane is put into contact with the soil, allowing electrical contact and ion migration while keeping the solution inside the anode or cathode. The multicompartment structure prevents the hydroxide and hydronium ion emplacement that causes acid and base fronts to form.
