    摘要: A shear wave generator for use subsea, including an excitation unit that is fastened to a top plate; a skirt, the upper end of which is fastened sealingly to the top plate and extending downward to an open lower end of the skirt, such that the top plate and skirt form a closed space by lowering to the seabed; and a pump arranged with fluid communication between the space and the surroundings, such that by pumping water out of the space, an underpressure is formed acting to suck the shear wave generator fixedly to and partly into the seabed, and by pumping water into the space, an overpressure is formed acting to lift the shear wave generator up from the seabed. The shear wave generator is distinguished in that the skirt is formed with a larger outer diameter or width at its upper end than at its lower end.

    摘要: A vibration generator can be used for seismic applications, producing vibrations for exploration of near-surface subsoils up to 150 meters. Containing two coils activated with AC current or other electrical pulses, the generator is coupled to the object to be investigated by suitable elements. Inside is an inner housing, the outer housing movably supporting, on opposing sides, two coils connected through the inner housing. One coil is activated continuously and alternates with a positive wave component of an AC current control signal; at the same time the other coil alternates with a negative wave component. The result, a controlled vibratory motion, is also achieved with DC voltage. Because of the law of action and reaction, the vibratory motion passed to the coupling elements allows motion into the object being investigated. In contrast to conventional moving coil systems for electromechanical vibration transduction, this generator is based on a soft-metal magnetic instrument.

    摘要: A seismic shear wave generator comprising a seismic wave source (3) arranged on a base plate (11) arranged for being placed at the seabed, and a coupling device (1) arranged for coupling the wave source (3) mechanically to the seabed in order for shear waves to be transmitted to the seabed. The novelty of the invention is as follows: a cylindrical skirt (1) closely arranged along the base plate's (11) circumference and extending down from the underside of the base plate (11), and open downwards, and a pump device (2) arranged for pumping water respectably out of, and into, the skirt (1) and form vacuum or overpressure, respectively, in a closed cavity formed by the skirt (1) and the base plate (11) and the seabed (1) is lowered onto the seabed. By means of the device mentioned above the shear wave generator may be suctioned fixed to the sea bed and thus transfer shear waves via the skirt (1) to the seabed.

    摘要: Controlled-polarization marine seismic shear-wave source has a base suitable for positioning on a seafloor, beneath a water body. Twin water-blast tubes (seismic-impulse-generation thrusters) are mounted on the base, aimed upwardly, outwardly in opposite directions at equal acute angles &bgr; relative to the base. These blast tubes are positioned symmetrically on opposite sides of vertical centerline CL of the source. When submerged, water enters open mouths at upper ends of the tubes. The base has multiple downwardly projecting blade-like teeth for penetrating into the seafloor. Firing a compressed-air discharger mounted in a lower end of a water-blast tube hurls a powerful slug of water upwardly along the tube, producing a powerful reaction impulse acting downwardly generally parallel with the tube axis. These blade-like teeth, engaging with seafloor material, couple into the seafloor horizontal force components of reaction impulses, thereby propagating simultaneously into the body of the seafloor horizontally-polarized shear waves (SH-Waves) and vertically-polarized shear waves (SV-Waves). Firing one blast tube produces SH-Waves and SV-Waves of first polarities. Firing the other tube produces SH-Waves and SV-Waves of second polarities, respectively opposite to the first polarities. Both tubes are fired simultaneously for propagating compressional P-Waves. While lifting slightly by a swivel cable, azimuthal orientations of the source and resulting shear-wave orientations are controllably changeable by simultaneously firing pneumatic thrusters aimed outwardly from diagonally opposite corners of the base.

    摘要: A system for, and method of, orienting seismic energy sources and seismic energy receivers to substantially separate a compressional wave from a vertical shear wave. The method includes reflecting a seismic energy from a subsurface interface to produce a reflected seismic energy wave that has a compressional energy and vertical shear energy associated therewith. A first seismic energy receiver is oriented such that it is aligned with an angle of emergence of the reflected seismic energy wave to thereby maximize the vertical shear energy received by a second seismic energy receiver.

    摘要: An apparatus and method for maximizing the shear wave energy imparted into the soil upon the impacting of a base plate by an impact mass from a seismic generator. A seismic generator is disposed at an angle relative to a line generally perpendicular to the surface to the ground. The angle varies with soil conditions and the angle is determined by locating an accelerometer on the base plate of the generator and observing the horizontal acceleration rate as indicated by the accelerometer. If the acceleration rate exceeds a predetermined value, the anguular disposition of the generator s changed to decrease the angle either manually or automatically until the acceleration rate no longer exceeds a predetermined value.
