摘要: A vehicle primarily a mass transit vehicle is formed primarily of composite materials which define a roof section and a floor section of two fiber reinforced sheets connected by an integral core and two rigid side wall sections each formed from welded steel or optionally bolted aluminum defining a series of window openings in a row along the side wall section in a ladder shape. Releasable joints of adhesive are provided between the metal rails and the edges of the composite panels where a web of the panel and the web of the rail extend across the panel at an angle to the first and second surfaces different from 90 degrees so that the web of the panel meets the flange of the panel at an angle greater than 90 degrees.

摘要: A structural shear panel for forming a floor panel for support by a vehicle frame is formed by a composite of top and bottom sheets and a core with a vacuum infused resin. The panel is mainly planar and terminates at its side edges at a portion which lies in a common plane and portions are provided which are deformed out of the generally planar shape to form depending or elevated sections. The structure is formed on a generally flat plate defining the planar panel portion with removable sections to define the depending and elevated sections. Edge pieces are attached to the plate to define the edges of the panel. Accessories are attached to the panel without compressing the core by a base plate of the accessory which is bolted to a bracket which has a backer plate and collar through a hole in the panel.

摘要: A panel formed by resin infusion from two fiber reinforced resin layers and a separating core is connected to a member such as a metal rail or another panel by an adhesive joint. The panel edge is shaped to define a male portion with a web and two side portions and the rail is channel shaped to match. A layer of adhesive of a thickness not less than 0.03″ or more than 0.10″ covers the base and sides. The tapered shape allows the adhesive located between the web of the panel and the web of the member, between the flange of the panel and the surface of the member and between the flange of the member and the second surface of the panel to be simultaneously compressed without the necessity for any shearing in the adhesive layer.

摘要: A public transit vehicle has a vehicle body having a roof defining an interior ceiling surface, two side walls each extending longitudinally of the vehicle including an upper side wall portion connecting to the roof and a row of windows underneath the upper portion, a central aisle and two rows of seats each on a respective side of the aisle and along the side wall at the windows. Each window comprises an outer pan attached into the window opening in the frame and a pane structure pivotally mounted in the pan. The pan is formed by four sides each of which is integrally defined by a web bridging the width of the frame, an exterior flange projecting outwardly and an interior flange projecting inwardly with the pan held in place by adhesive between the exterior surface of the frame and the exterior flange and between the web and the corresponding surface of the frame. The pan is thus imperforate to prevent moisture penetration. The pane includes an external frame sealed relative to the pan sides by three separate seals. The pane is suspended from a pivot at the top and is latched by latches in the bottom frame of the pane.

Stanchions for supporting passengers while standing are shaped so that they curve upwardly and outwardly of the aisle to a wider spacing at the ceiling than at the seats. Between two stanchion mounting rails is provided a central ceiling panel dropped from the roof to define an air supply duct longitudinally along the aisle above the passengers. This is supplied with ventilation air by a roof mounted system and communicates by individual sub-ducts with a series of fans in the side walls. A flap valve at the fan can be operated to cause heated air when required to be supplied through the main side wall posts to bottom discharge openings at the bottom interior panels or to cause cooled air to be supplied to a duct along the top of the windows.

A metal shear plate with wave form stiffening is welded between each pair of posts and at its bottom edge to the side rail and extends upwardly to a top edge spaced downwardly from the windows and acts as an impact plate to prevent penetration. Exterior cladding for the side wall includes a continuous panel connected along the side under the window and a plurality of end to end sacrificial flexible impact panels connected to the continuous panel by a hinge joint at an upper edge of the impact panels so as to cover the impact plate.

The roof and floor are formed from a welded frame structure over which is applied a molded panel formed in single panel structure and bonded to the frame structure. The panel is formed by molding a sandwich using a thermosetting resin through top and bottom fiber reinforced sheets and a honeycomb layer of resin impregnated paper and foam between the sheets. The floor panel is shaped so that its thickness varies and its top and bottom surfaces deviate from an otherwise planar structure to incline downwardly at a door way and to incline upwardly to clear structural elements. The side walls are clad by a coping panel connected to the roof panel and by a side wall panel beneath the windows. The cladding panels carry the wall insulation.

Below the lighting fixture is provided an elongate advertising card support panel member for receiving and supporting an advertising card. The housing is substantially continuous along the vehicle and supports a plurality of fluorescent tubes mounted in the light housing. Between each tube and the next is provided a web member having an inner surface matching that of the housing and an outer surface butting edges of the individual lens/covers mounted on the light housing. The card support panel member carries adjacent the bottom receptacle thereof an elongate pressure switch strip operable at any point along its length for signalling the driver. The reflector is mainly parabolic with a V-shaped center section acting as a beam splitter and a support for a ground wire. The lens includes two upstanding fins each on a respective side of the tube and each carrying a reflective layer to restrict light from passing toward the aisle and the windows.
