摘要: A portable, self-contained spray device and method for reaching and cleaning at least one optical surface having limited access. The spray device includes a fluid reservoir and a cover tube having an inner wall, an outer wall, a first end and a second end. A nozzle assembly at the first end of the cover tube includes a seal to provide substantially fluid-tight contact between the spray device and an optical surface. A delivery tube is located inside the inner wall of the cover tube, coaxial with the cover tube. The delivery tube coupled to the fluid reservoir directs fluid towards the nozzle assembly. An absorbent mounted adjacent to the outer wall of at least a portion of the cover tube collects liquid residues after application of fluid to an optical surface. The absorbent may be included in an absorbent cartridge that includes a detachable jacket surrounding the absorbent.

摘要: An electrical connector assembly for terminating first and second electrical wires, the electrical connector assembly comprising a housing including a compartment for receiving first and second IDC elements and a cap movably mounted to the housing to cover the compartment. The cap is movable between an open position and a closed position. The cap includes a general body portion, a wire retention portion, and a latching mechanism. The wire retention portion includes first and second wire holders to retain and align the respective electrical wires within the housing for engagement with a gripping portion of the respective IDC element when the cap is placed in a closed position. The gripping force of the wire holders is less than a gripping force of the IDC elements. The latching mechanism can releasably fasten the cap to the housing when the cap is placed in a closed position. When the cap is returned to an open position after the cap was placed in the closed position, the first and second wires are retained by the first and second IDC elements and the first and second wire holders disengage the first and second wires from the cap.

摘要: A sonde for tracing an underground conduit has a separable casing which receives a removable inner shell, the transmitter electronics being located in the shell. The electronics may be permanently potted in the inner shell or removable therefrom. The interchangeability of the transmitter facilitates the use of different types of transmission signals without requiring the more expensive casing for each such transmitter. The shell also advantageously supports the battery, and further is free to rotate within the housing such that, as the cap is screwed onto the housing, the shell and battery are free to rotate, precluding damage to the battery leads which may be caused by twisting of the leads.

摘要: A fiber identifer for detecting the presence or absence of an active data signal or a test signal in an optical fiber. The instrument includes a piston which positions a portion of the fiber under test against an optical detector, the piston being located within a housing, and the housing being attached to a drive rod. The rod is responsive to a levered actuation mechanism, but a damper controls the movement rate of the rod, and hence the piston, to slowly bend the fiber, minimizing disruption of any signal flowing through the fiber and preventing undue mechanical stress which could damage the fiber. A precision spring within the housing is used to limit the pressure applied by the piston against the optical fiber. The housing also includes a novel arrangement of electrical contacts to sense the position of the piston and, indirectly, the position of the rod.
