摘要: A fuse for operation with both DC and AC currents is disclosed which consists of a composite fuse link contained in a large insulator housing. Located within the housing are first and second foil sections fabricated from a good conducting material. Each foil section is secured to a right and left terminal with its other end coupled to a central link fabricated from zinc. The central link is contained within a smaller cylinder and is surrounded by air, while the foil sections are surrounded by quartz sand or some other suitable filler material dispersed within the large housing.

摘要: There is disclosed an encapsulated fuse link whereby a lower melting point metal such as tin is deposited between two reduced cross sectional areas of a higher melting point base material such as copper or silver which forms the major surface area of the link. The area upon which the lower melting point metal is deposited is encapsulated by means of nonconductive material such as a high temperature plastic tube which is secured to the major surface of the link by some means such as staples at either end. The structure prevents the low melting point metal from migrating or traveling down the fuse link during operation which would undesirably tend to alter the characteristics of the fuse.

摘要: An asymmetrical fuse link employs a planar conductive member with the top and bottom surfaces manifested by having a series of alternating partial apertures with the alternating apertures in the top surface being of a first larger area followed by a second smaller area followed by a next larger area and so on. The bottom surface of the link also having a plurality of alternating partial apertures with the smaller diameter aperture of the bottom surface aligned with a larger diameter aperture in the top surface and so on. Thus the top and bottom surfaces each have partial apertures, with one of which is of a larger area and the next of a smaller area and arranged along a common axis and separated by a central aperture. Based on the above construction of the link, an arc generated during current interruption of the fuse is caused to zig zag along opposite edges of the planar member from a first to a second end. The configuration allows one to employ less material in implementing a fuse link than employed with prior art configurations, and makes for an excellent very fast acting current limiting fuse without a high peak recovery voltage.

摘要: A fuse link for use in a fast acting current limiting fuse also exhibiting a superior arc quenching capability consisting of a thin copper ribbon placed in series with a thin silver ribbon. The copper section provides a faster heating capability to the fuse while the silver section assures a lower arcing capability. The copper section has a series of apertures along the surface thereof which apertures are semicircular in configuration at the top and bottom of the copper section and separated by a circular aperture in between located in the center of the link. The silver section has top and bottom trapezoidal apertures which are separated by a smaller diameter circular aperture at the center of the link. The copper and silver links are placed in series between fuse terminals and are connected by both a mechanical and electrical connection to afford a reliable bond between the dissimilar metals constituting each of the separate links.

摘要: An apparatus and computer program are disclosed for collecting data about the transmission of network packets that are associated with specified applications. The packets are transmitted through a communications network fabric that is used to couple data processing systems together. A particular existing single bit in a frame header definition is selected. The bit is defined as part of the standard frame header by a communication protocol as an available bit in the frame header. The standard protocol is unchanged by the selection of this bit. An application is specified to be monitored. The selected bit is then set in each network packet that is generated by the specified application. The fabric collects performance data for each packet that has the bit set. Thus, the fabric collects performance data about a transmission of each packet that is generated by the application when that application is setting the bit.

摘要: A system for supervisor partitioning of client resources in a subnet communications environment includes a plurality of client nodes, each receiving an allocated set of resources determined by a central authority, which assigns resources to a supervisor key associated with each supervisor of the plurality of client nodes. At each of the client nodes, the allocated set of resources are partitioned using a local supervisor associated therewith, with each supervisor associating one or more resource keys with one or more resources allocated to the corresponding client node, and assigning the one or more resource keys to the one or more applications. The supervisor keys are configured so as to prevent a given supervisor from partitioning resources not allocated to the client node associated therewith. Following the partitioning, communication packets are issued from the one or more applications to a resource provider node without inspection by the corresponding supervisor.

摘要: Systems and arrangements to adjust resource accessibility based upon usage modes are contemplated. Embodiments may include a supervisor instance such as an operating system that is adapted to select one or more supervisor keys from a set of supervisor keys available to the host node or platform upon which the supervisor instance is operating. The supervisor instance may select the supervisor key(s) based upon an association of the supervisor instance with a usage mode represented by a supervisor key name. In many embodiments, supervisor key names may be associated with resources via with one or more of the supervisor keys based upon the resources needed when operating in the usage modes by a system administrator. Once the supervisor instance is initialized, the supervisor instance may issue client keys that allow access to subsets of the resources available to the supervisor instance based upon usage modes of the clients.
