摘要:
A preemption system enables successful transmission of multiple service data units (SDUs) across a wireless interface. The preemption system addresses out-of-order transmissions of fragments of SDUs, such that the receiver is able to process each successfully. The preemption system enables a higher-priority SDU to simultaneously be transmitted with a lower-priority SDU, so that delays in processing the lower-priority SDU does not negatively affect processing of the higher-priority SDU. The preemption system also addresses non-automatic repeat request medium access controller (non-ARQ MAC) connections that only use hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ), in which the HARQ transmission may cause out-of-order delivery of SDU fragments.

Embodiments of a system and method for wireless communication are provided. In certain embodiments, a base station provides a first zone using a first version of the communication standard and a second zone using a second version of the communication standard. In certain embodiments, the base station determines whether a mobile station communicating with the base station in the first zone can support the second version of the communication standard used in the second zone. When the mobile station can support the second version of the communication standard, the base station can send a command to switch the mobile station to the second zone.

Techniques are disclosed that involve the indication of neighbor base stations. For instance, a base station may generate and wirelessly transmit a message that indicates a plurality of neighboring base stations. This message may include an indicator having one or more wildcard values. Through the employment of such wildcard values, the indicator may provide information corresponding to the plurality of neighboring base stations. For instance, the indicator may indicate a plurality of base station identifiers (BSIDs). Alternatively, the indicator may indicate a plurality of preamble indices. As a further alternative, the indicator may indicate a plurality of carrier frequencies. Through the employment of such techniques, overhead can be saved without causing ambiguity in mobility management.

Efficient paging operation for femtocell deployment is generally presented. In this regard, a paging controller is introduced including a wired backbone interface to communicate with a plurality of macro base stations and a plurality of femto base stations, and control logic, the control logic to generate a page for a mobile station, and the control logic to transmit the page over the wired backbone interface to a select subset of all base stations, wherein the select subset of all base stations includes base stations that the mobile station is authorized to access. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.

A method and system to facilitate mobile relay and group mobility in a wireless network. In one embodiment of the invention, the wireless network facilitates a mobile relay station that has logic to switch communication with a first base station to a second base station while maintaining logical communication with its associated mobile station(s). By doing so, the handover of the mobile relay station from a source base station to a target base station is transparent to the mobile station(s) that are connected with the mobile relay station in one embodiment of the invention.
