    摘要: In a conventional method of driving a plasma display panel, for example, an auxiliary discharge is executed between an A electrode and a Y electrode to improve light-emission efficiency of a display discharge. However, since a phosphor layer is present between the A electrode and the Y electrode, the phosphor layer is exposed to a discharge, whereby there is a problem that its characteristic deteriorates. A method of driving a plasma display panel having a structure, in which at least three display electrodes X, Y, and Z used for a display discharge are provided to a display cell and no phosphor layer is formed between said display electrodes and a discharge space, the method comprising the steps of: varying a potential of at least one display electrode Z of said display electrodes during said display discharge; and making a potential of said at least one display electrode Z at a time of starting said display discharge different from that at a time of ending said display discharge.

    摘要: A Plasma Display Apparatus having common electrodes and address electrodes extending in a first direction and scan electrodes extending in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction, and each address electrode is aligned with a respective common electrode. A display cell is formed at a crossing portion of each common electrode and address electrode pair and each scan electrode. A lit state or an unlit state of each display cell is selected by applying, in individual succession, scan pulses to scan electrodes and selectively applying address pulses to the address electrodes. A sustain discharge is produced in each display cell selected to be lit by applying sustain pulses between the common electrodes and the scan electrodes.

    摘要: In a reset period after a sustain discharge period, erase discharges are done by applying pulse voltages having different waveforms in the first erase discharge period for an ON cell turned on in the preceding sustain discharge period and in the second erase discharge period even for an OFF cell not turned on in the preceding sustain discharge period. Weak wall charges that could not completely be erased in the first erase discharge period, i.e., weak wall charges having been accumulated in the OFF cell under the influence of the ON cell can be erased in the second erase discharge period. This makes it possible to prevent an ON operation of the OFF cell that should not be turned on in the subsequent address period and sustain discharge period, and to improve the driving voltage margin.
