A method of driving a plasma display is disclosed, in which the deterioration of the display quality which otherwise might be caused by the light emission due to a reset pulse is prevented thereby to improve the display quality. The voltage of the reset pulse is set taking the voltage due to the accumulated charge into consideration in accordance with a specific display. In this way, the self-erasure discharge is not caused in all the cells but only in the cells involved in display. The display brightness is set also for the self-erasure discharge as a discharge involved in display like the sustaining discharge.

In a reset period after a sustain discharge period, erase discharges are done by applying pulse voltages having different waveforms in the first erase discharge period for an ON cell turned on in the preceding sustain discharge period and in the second erase discharge period even for an OFF cell not turned on in the preceding sustain discharge period. Weak wall charges that could not completely be erased in the first erase discharge period, i.e., weak wall charges having been accumulated in the OFF cell under the influence of the ON cell can be erased in the second erase discharge period. This makes it possible to prevent an ON operation of the OFF cell that should not be turned on in the subsequent address period and sustain discharge period, and to improve the driving voltage margin.

A plasma display includes address electrodes for scanning and addressing display cells, and scan electrodes for establishing an address discharge between the address electrodes and the scan electrodes by addressing. The display also includes common electrodes for establishing a sustain discharge between the scan electrodes and the common electrodes to display an image at the display cells, and a scan driver for supplying a voltage to the scan electrodes so as to scan display cells upon addressing during divided periods.
