摘要： A camera for reading film information expressed with a bar code, which is provided on a bar code plate being rotatable with a spool of a film cartridge, through a window of the film cartridge. The camera includes: a driver for rotating the spool; an optical reading device for reading the bar code, and for generating a bar code information including the film information; a detecting circuit for detecting a reference position of the bar code according to the bar code information, and a memory device for storing the bar code information being read by the optical reading device. In the camera, the driver rotates the spool in a film rewinding direction after a film in the film cartridge is rewound so that the detector circuit detects the reference position of the bar code according to the bar code information stored in the memory device, and the driver rotates the spool according to the reference position so as to locate a bar code portion corresponding to exposed state of the film. The camera further includes a release pin for releasing a spool locking mechanism which cannot be inadvertently released during the cartridge loading or cartridge removal.

The camera further includes a driver to drive the film winder when the motor is forwardly rotated, and also to drive the film rewinder or the zoom viewfinder driver when the motor is reversely rotated, and a switch to switch over between the zoom viewfinder driver and the film rewinder in accordance with a position of the lens barrel. The camera yet further includes a controller to activate the film rewinder by the reverse rotation of the motor when the lens barrel is located in a retracting position, and also to activating the zoom viewfinder driver by the reverse rotation of the motor when the lens barrel is located in a protruding position.

The image reading apparatus comprises: a carrier member holding a film-shaped transparency original which has a plurality of frames; an illuminating means illuminating the transparency original; and an image reading means reading image data of the transparency original illuminated by the illuminating means, in which when the image data is read in previewing, the carrier member is moved by a carrier moving means, and when final image reading of the image data is effected, the carrier member is moved by moving a carrier frame having the carrier moving means. The image data which has been read is outputted to an image display device connected to the image reading apparatus.

When the carrier is loaded, the carrier is driven at a high speed by a first stepping motor and is driven to a predetermined position, to optically detect whether the carrier is for holding the piece film or for holding the long wound film. When the carrier is for holding the piece film, the carrier is driven at a high speed by the first stepping motor and is prescanned. When the carrier is for holding the long wound film, the carrier is driven by a second stepping motor and is prescanned. In the main scanning, both of the carriers are driven by the second stepping motor at a low speed, so that image is read maintaining a high resolution.
