The reading module includes a linear light source that extends in a direction intersecting a moving direction in which the transport unit relatively moves and irradiates a document with light via a transparent member, an image forming element that condenses the light reflected from the document, and a light receiving element that receives the light condensed by the image forming element. The linear light source is disposed such that a main optical axis of the linear light source is inclined at a first angle with respect to a normal direction of the transparent member in the moving direction, and the image forming element is inclined at a second angle in the same direction as the inclination of the main optical axis of the linear light source.

摘要： According to exemplary methods, a selection of a paper type for producing an image is received. A database of background suppression values associated with paper types is searched. Responsive to not finding a background suppression value associated with the paper type, the database is updated for the paper type. According to the method of updating, a page of the paper type is scanned and image data obtained by scanning the page is analyzed. Background luminance for the page is determined based on analyzing the image data. A background suppression value is calculated for the page based on the background luminance. The paper type and the background suppression value for the page are added to the database. The background suppression value is associated with the paper in the database.

摘要： A control system for controlling execution of calibration on a printing apparatus includes an acquiring unit configured to acquire, from a printing apparatus to be controlled, first sheet type information representing information regarding a common calibration sheet type used when the most recent common calibration is executed, where a result of common calibration executed using the common calibration sheet type is applied to other sheet types, a determination unit configured to determine whether the state of the printing apparatus for the first sheet type satisfies a predetermined condition in accordance with a print volume of the printing apparatus, and a control unit configured to cause the printing apparatus to execute calibration using the first sheet type if the determination unit determines that the predetermined condition for the first sheet type is satisfied.

The system is able to determine reflectance values for a print medium, to determine reflectance values for a colorant applied to the print medium, and to alter the determined reflectance values for the colorant based on the reflectance values of the print medium. The system is further able to calibrate a printer that applied the colorant to the print medium based on the altered reflectance values.

摘要： This invention is directed to a method capable of performing appropriate under color removal in image original reading. According to this method, under color removal of the original is performed as follows. A printing medium without any printed image is read by primary and complementary color readings. A brightness signal distribution is generated by converting, using a provisional table, each of image data generated by the reading methods. The lowest one of signal levels is selected from each of the distributions. In correspondence with each of the primary and complementary color readings, a conversion table is formed, which converts the image data to make a pixel value corresponding to the selected lowest one of the signal levels to a value representing white. Under color removal of the image data is performed using a corresponding conversion table in accordance with the reading method of the image original.
