    摘要: An intake port device comprises an intake port (9) formed by a straight part (13) and a helical part (15), and a valve (17) disposed adjacent to the inlet of the intake port. In order that intake air flow having a large swirl ratio can be supplied to an engine without being encountered with a large resistance even in a light-loaded condition of the engine, the valve (17) is held in its closed position without causing any sharp decrease in the coefficient of intake air flow when closed. In a modification of the intake port device, the valve (17) holds open the lower half of the intake port 9 in its closed position, so that intake air flow having a large swirl ratio can be supplied without being encounted with a large resistance even when the load of the engine is light. In another modification of the intake port device, the free end of the valve (17) is bent and deformed in the downstream direction of intake air so that the flow of intake air may not be encountered with a large resistance.

    摘要: In a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine having a plurality of cylinders which are supplied with air via one common throttle valve and a control unit for regulating the number of operating cylinders which suspends the operation of an arbitrary number of cylinders by intercepting the air supply to said cylinders, it is noted at a point the output of the engine under Z.sub.1 -cylinder operation coincides with the output under Z.sub.2 -cylinder operation at the same degree of opening of the throttle valve at a given constant rate of engine rotation. Based on such a fact, the multi-cylinder internal combustion engine is made capable of shifting to and from Z.sub.1 -cylinder operation and Z.sub.2 -cylinder operation in the proximity of said point where these outputs coincide. This way, there will be no fluctuation in the output nor shock at the time of switching, and the control unit for this purpose can be made simple in construction.

    摘要: An air fuel ratio detecting device is disposed in an exhaust gas passage of an engine, and detects the oxygen concentration in exhaust gases to produce a signal indicative of the air-fuel ratio of an air-fuel mixture supplied to the engine. The air-fuel ratio detecting device serves as a linear A/F sensor for detecting whether the air-fuel mixture is on a leaner or richer side of a stoichiometric ratio and for also detecting the value of the air-fuel ratio. An electric signal representative of the oxygen concentration in a detection chamber supplied with exhaust gases is applied by a sensor cell to a controller which then controls a pump cell to cause the oxygen concentration in the detection chamber to indicate a nearly stoichiometric ratio. The air-fuel ratio detecting device can continuously detect the air-fuel ratio with an electric control signal from the controller. The stoichiometric ratio is detected when the potential difference between the electrode of the pump cell jumps or varies discontinuously. Since the oxygen concentration difference directly serves as detected stoichiometric ratio information, the stoichiometric ratio can be detected with an increased response. The stoichiometric ratio may be detected, using a variable threshold value, based on the potential difference across the pump cell, and the threshold value is selected depending on a control parameter for fine adjustments of a target air-fuel ratio.

    摘要: An ignition timing control apparatus for an internal combustion engine capable of using as a fuel a regular (low-octane) gasoline, a premium (high-octane) gasoline, or a mixture of both type of gasolines. The engine produces knocks when the ignition timing is advanced beyond a reference ignition timing determined as a function of the type of gasoline being used. This advance ignition timing control apparatus detects the knocks, and provides as an output therefrom a signal according to the occurrence rate of the knocks which essentially indicates the type of gasoline in use. By means of this signal, this ignition timing control apparatus continuously displaces the reference ignition timing in the direction of retard angle by using a proportion factor calculator and an interpolator. At the same time, the displaced reference ignition timing is corrected by the detected knock signals on a real time basis. The combined ignition timing signal serves to energize an ignition coil to suppress the occurrence of knocks. This operation will continue until no knocks occur.
