Abstract: A vehicle control system, a vehicle control method, and a storage medium are provided. A stopping process stops fuel supply to one or more stopping cylinders and supplies fuel to one or more remaining cylinders during a load operation of an engine. During execution of the stopping process, a compensating process compensates for a decrease in output of the one or more stopping cylinders due to the execution of the stopping process by increasing output generated by combustion in the one or more remaining cylinders. The system control circuit causes, when the engine rotation speed of the engine is the same, the output after being increased by the compensating process to decrease as a shaft torque of the crankshaft of the engine increases.

Abstract: At least some embodiments of the present disclosure are directed to systems and methods for controlling a cylinder deactivation (CDA) operation for an electrified powertrain, the electrified powertrain comprising an engine and an additional power source, the engine having a plurality of cylinders. The method includes the step of operating the electrified powertrain in a CDA mode and deactivating one or more selected cylinders of the plurality of cylinders; receiving measurement data indicative of operating conditions of the electrified powertrain; analyzing the measurement data to determine whether a predetermined operating condition is met; and adjusting the CDA operation by adjusting the duration of the CDA operation or changing a number of deactivated cylinders.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for engine braking in a vehicle. In one example, a method may include deactivating fueling to at least one cylinder of an engine, increasing an air mass provided to the engine via an electric boosting device, and adjusting an exhaust valve opening timing of the at least one cylinder in response to a request for engine braking. In this way, an amount of engine braking torque may be increased with reduced wear to engine system components.

Abstract: A control device of an internal combustion engine is provided. In the case where a switch request for switching from all-cylinder operation to partial-cylinder operation is made, before a switch from the all-cylinder operation to the partial-cylinder operation is executed, an intake air amount increase control increasing an intake air flow rate of an engine by increasing an opening degree of a throttle valve is performed, an ignition timing retardation control retarding an ignition timing is performed, and based on a retardation limit value of the ignition timing at a time point when the switch request is made, a start timing of the intake air amount increase control is changed. As a retardable amount being a difference between an initial ignition timing and the retardation limit value decreases, the start timing of the intake air amount increase control is delayed further.

Abstract: A system and method for dynamically varying an amount slippage of a Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) provided between an engine and a transmission of a vehicle in response to non-powertrain factors. By varying a slippage output signal, the amount of TCC slippage between the engine and the transmission can be adjusted. Small amounts of slippage, relative to large amounts of slippage, provide (a) improved vehicle fuel economy, but (b) induce more powertrain noise and vibration in the vehicle cabin. By dynamically adjusting the slippage, a tradeoff between improved fuel economy vs. a satisfying driver experience can be realized.
