The slit exposure optical system for a copying machine generally includes two mirror-carrying movable tables of which one is driven at half the speed of the other. Normally each table is driven from one and the same end which means that the other end of each table must follow. If such following is not precise, aberrations in the optical system result. The present invention provides means for interconnecting the nondriver ends of the tables in such a manner that the movement of the nondriver ends will precisely follow the movement of the driver ends and aberrations are thereby avoided.

An electrophotographic reproducing apparatus in which a reproducing apparatus body unit including an electrostatic latent image receptor such as a photosensitive member and other electrophotographic treating device is assembled in advance whereas an optical scanning unit including at least a document illumination lamp, a group of mirrors and a group of focusing lenses is assembled in advance in a predetermined positional relationship to the reproducing apparatus body unit, and both the units thus assembled are jointed at predetermined reference planes to each other and so integrated that they can be driven cooperatively with each other. In the optical system of an electrophotographic copying apparatus embodying movable mirrors, it is of the utmost importance that these mirrors be properly aligned relatively to one another. In the present invention, two of the mirrors mounted at right angles to one another on a slidable frame which moves at half the speed of another movable mirror, are mounted on that frame for slight pivotal movement. This pivotal movement is controllable to provide adjustment of errors in the optical system and when adjustment is completed the mirrors are fixed in place.

At least a part housing the recording papers of the first paper cassette is capable of being pulled out in a pulling out direction which is in a feeding direction of the recording papers from the first cassette, and at least a part housing the recording papers of the second paper cassette is capable of being pulled out in the same pulling out direction of the first paper cassette. The image forming apparatus further includes a paper feeding section integrally provided on the second paper cassette and located on a front side of the first paper cassette in the pulling out direction of the first and second paper cassettes, for exclusively feeding the recording papers from the second paper cassette to the main body of the image forming apparatus through a second paper feeding path.

A color image forming machine includes a plurality of exposure units for irradiating an image carrier movable in a secondary scanning direction of the exposure units by primary scanning beams, at a plurality of irradiation positions to form latent images, a plurality of charging units for charging the image carrier corresponding to the irradiation positions of the exposure units and a plurality of developing units to form toner images corresponding the latent images. The plurality of toner images are superimposed on the image carrier to obtain a multi-color or full-color images trough transferring and fixing. A light-reflective registration mark is provided to a non-image area on one side of the image carrier. Employing at least two exposure units, irradiation by each primary scanning beam is conducted to the light-reflective registration mark moving in the secondary scanning direction. Each reflected beam from the registration mark is received by a plurality of photoreceptor sensors and then detection signals of a registration mark position are generated. Timing of writing by the primary scanning beam and a distance between bright lines formed on the image carrier by primary scanning beams of at least two exposure units are detected. The detected result is fed back to control the start timing of image writing and the driving of the image carrier.

The preliminary discharger is composed of an electrode for corona discharging and a shield plate with an opening for restricting a discharging zone from the electrode to the recording sheet.

A V-mirror position changing device includes a block carriage disposed at an end of a closed loop wire for driving the first and second carriages, and a stationary block disposed on a body frame in a manner to correspond to adjoining blocks disposed on the block carriage. The wire is made to run on the blocks of the block carriage and the stationary block, and the terminal end of the wire is fixed on the block carriage.
