    摘要: A system and methods for traffic gating in a computer network comprising a plurality of subnets are developed. One of the methods implemented in a data-over-cable system includes, responsive to receiving a first address resolution request message on a cable modem from a first host to a second host, generating a second address resolution request message on the cable modem and sending it to the second host. If the second host does not respond with an address resolution protocol reply message to the second request message, the cable modem determines a network subnet associated with the first host. Based on the network subnet, the cable modem determines a network address of a network element arranged to provide routing services to hosts on the subnet associated with the first host. Next, the cable modem generates an address resolution reply message including the network address of the network element and sends it to the first host.

    摘要: Different bitloading may be applied to different subsets of an Multicast (MC) group. Alternatively, the same bitloading may be applied to several or all of the subsets of an MC group. Such subset, or MC subgroup, may be formed as a result of considering bitloading capabilities of nodes of an MC group. In one embodiment, information is transmitted multiple times, once for each MC subgroup, each subgroup with a different bitloading. Such a process may improve overall throughput and efficiency for delivering packets to nodes of a network.

    摘要: A node forms a network by scanning for an existing network. If an existing network is not found, the node operates as a network controller node of the first network and admits at least one client node to the first network. As a network controller node, the node designates one of the client nodes as a scout node. The scout node removes itself from the first network and scans for a second network. If the scout node does not return to the first network after a predetermined time, it is assumed that the scout node has found a second network. The network controller node of the first network then designates the remaining client nodes as scout nodes, and then joins the second network as a client node. Therefore, multiple networks are avoided.

In one embodiment, the areas/rooms of a building that are substantially isolated from one another may require or benefit from temperature that are different from other areas/rooms. Accordingly, the system includes an actuator that is coupleable to a valve structure of a vent. The fluid flow upstream of the vent may be conditioned by a climate control system, such as a furnace. The system of the present disclosure further includes a controller that is coupleable in communication with the actuator. The controller is configured to receive a vent input and send a command signal to the actuator based on the vent input. The vent input is a desired position of the valve structure of the vent and the controller is independent of the climate control system.
