A color printing system includes a central processing unit for generating color image data, a color monitor for displaying color image data generated by the central processing unit and a color temperature sensing device for sensing color temperature of viewing light in which color images displayed on the monitor and color images printed by the printer are viewed. A first light source has a light output intensity controllable by the central processing unit. The central processing unit is adapted to control the intensity of the first light source in accordance with the color temperature sensed by the sensing device so as to match the color temperature sensed by the sensing device to a potential color temperature. Additionally, a second light source may be provided. The second light source has a different color temperature than the first light source and the central processor can adjust the intensity of the first and second light source based on relative color temperatures. The central processing unit is adapted to adjust the color temperature of either or both intensity of the first and second light sources.

A processor sends and receives network communications, confirms that the new program image is compatible with the configuration information in the current network information file block, and executes the software reprogramming module so as to reprogram the reprogrammable read only memory with the new program image in a case where compatibility is confirmed.

A template-type calorimeter comprising a light-transparent substrate having a diffraction grating on a surface thereof, the diffraction grating being operative to diffract light incident thereon from a spaced-apart aperture into its constituent spectral components. A template is provided on a surface of the substrate and arranged to receive the diffracted spectral components. The template has formed thereon at least three spatial filters, each for selectively transmitting diffracted spectral components in accordance with respective ones of the desired color-matching functions such as the CIE x(.lambda.), y(.lambda.), z(.lambda.) or r(.lambda.), g(.lambda.), b(.lambda.) color-matching functions. The diffraction grating and the template may be mounted on opposite sides of the substrate, or they may be mounted in a laterally spaced-apart relationship on the same side of the substrate, in which case the opposite side of the substrate is coated with a reflective material. Detectors are arranged adjacent and behind each spatial filter to detect the spectral components transmitted by the respective filters, and the entire assembly is mounted in a light-tight housing which houses the aperture and the assembly in the desired spaced-apart relationship.

A network device which interfaces between a local area network (LAN) and an image forming apparatus and which can output debug information. The network device includes a LAN interface for receiving image forming jobs and command signals from the LAN and a peripheral interface for outputting image forming jobs to the image forming apparatus. The network device further includes a storage device that stores debug information regarding the network device configuration for receiving image forming jobs from the LAN and outputting image forming jobs to the image forming apparatus. In addition, the network device has a processor that detects a triggering condition and, in response to the triggering condition, formats the debug information into an image forming job and outputs the formatted debug information to the image forming apparatus.

A color printer driver for a printer includes a reproduction look-up table (LUT) which stores CMY values for colors both in-gamut and out-of-gamut of the printer. For close-in out-of-gamut colors, the reproduction LUT stores perceptually matched CMY values whereas for far-out-of-gamut colors, the reproduction LUT stores saturation matched CMY values. CMY values for the out-of-gamut colors are obtained by a dual-cone gamut mapping technique in which an actual cone of N-cone arranged surfaces is defined so as to mimic the actual gamut of the printer, an ideal cone of M-cone arranged surfaces is defined so as to mimic an ideal gamut such as the gamut of a typical color monitor, a target out-of-gamut color is projected onto the actual cone and de-saturated until an in-gamut CMY value is obtained, the same target color is projected onto the ideal cone to obtain a fully-saturated CMY value, and a weighted average is obtained of the in-gamut CMY value and the fully-saturated CMY value, the weight being based on a measure of distance between the out-of-gamut target color and its projection onto the actual cone.
