A method, apparatus and system for providing color grading or color correction for displays includes a plurality of virtual device models where each virtual device model has a virtual model specification (VMS) which controls a display feature. Each display includes a display specification including a display requirement or requirements. An apparatus of the present invention is configured to compare the display feature of at least one VMS against the display requirement of the display specification to determine a best match therebetween to select a virtual device model to control a display picture. Color correction is further provided in post production using the VMS to provide consistency across multiple display types.

A method and a device are disclosed for luminous printing of an original image using fluorescent ink or other fluorescent display pigments. In some embodiments, the original image is separated into multiple layers, including at least a brightness layer and an inverse brightness (or darkness) layer, by applying extracted brightness data and inverse brightness data, to the original image, respectively. Each of the layers is associated with a set of corresponding printing channels. The sets of printing channels are applied by a printing device to print the original image on a print medium, such as paper, mylar, fabric, and other print surfaces. Multiple visual effects may be realized using the aforementioned process, including fluorescent images that are only visible under UV (Ultra Violet) or black light, images with high-fidelity colors under daylight and dark conditions, and shadow effects such as depth illusion.

We propose new methods for creating color varying prints with classical cyan, magenta, yellow inks on a metallic substrate. We use a special crossline halftone with optimized surface coverages of the inks to create color prints on a metallic surface whose colors change when rotating the print in-plane under specular reflection. These prints enable viewing on the same metallic print a first image with a first set of colors and upon in-plane rotation, the same image with parts colored with a different set of colors. They also enable viewing a first color image and upon rotation a second independent color image. Applications comprise counterfeit prevention, art, advertisement exhibitions and amusement parks.

A data correcting method is disclosed to implement an optimum picture quality according to surrounding conditions. The data correcting method includes: converting the input data into XYZ color space data; converting the XYZ color space data into JCh color space data by applying a reference illuminance parameter to a CIECAM02 forward algorithm; inversely converting the JCh color space data into the XYZ color space data by the illuminance by sequentially applying a plurality of illuminance parameters different from the reference illuminance, to a CIECAM02 backward algorithm; inversely converting the inversely converted XYZ color space data into an RGB color space to produce correction data of each illuminance; and making a look-up table by mapping the produced correction data of each illuminance to the input data.
