摘要: A method of forming a hose includes: extruding a web of plastics material from a first extruder; helically winding the extruded web about a mandrel or at least one rotating rod to form a wall of the hose; feeding an electrical wire into a second extruder; extruding a bead of plastics material around the electrical wire from the second extruder, wherein the first electrical wire is positioned at a first location within a cross-section of the bead that comprises a bonding surface; cooling the bead to cool the plastics material adjacent the first location to prevent migration of the first electrical wire from the first location; re-heating the first bonding surface to cause the plastics material of the bonding surface to become molten; and helically winding the bead onto the hose to put the bonding surface into contact with, and to cause bonding with, the wall of the hose.

摘要: A method of continuously forming an axially extensible and retractable hose comprising: continuously forming an axially extending helix with axially spaced reinforcing coils from extruded thermoplastic material having a uniform cross-section along its length; and continuously bridging between an adjacent pair of the reinforcing coils with a continuous web of extruded thermoplastic material of substantially uniform width and relatively thin cross-section to form a continuous, helically extending sidewall, with the web having one of two opposite edge regions bonded continuously to a relatively flat outer bonding surface of a radially outwardly located portion of one of the adjacent pair of reinforcing coils, with the web having the other of the edge regions bonded continuously to a relatively flat inner bonding surface of a radially inwardly located portion of the other of the pair of reinforcing coils, and with the edge regions continuously radially separated from each other by the helix.

摘要: A respiratory humidification device includes: a casing; a separator wall to divide an interior space into filling and humidification chambers, wherein a bottom edge of the separator wall leaves a space between it and the casing bottom to define a passage allowing water to flow atop the casing bottom between the chambers, and enabling the water level to rise enough to block the passage to prevent respiratory gas from passing therethrough; a valve and float within the filling chamber to control water flow into the filling chamber to prevent the water level from rising higher than a threshold; and wherein an outer wall of the casing and the separator wall cooperate with the water surface within the humidification chamber to define an elongate tube-like pathway through which respiratory gas proceeds along a path extending generally parallel to the water surface within the humidification chamber to be humidified.

摘要: An extensible-retractable helically reinforced hose is formed by helically wrapping a freshly extruded bead of thermoplastic material about a rotating mandrel to form a helical array of spaced reinforcing coils, and by helically wrapping a freshly extruded thin yet wide web of thermoplastic material so edge regions of the wide web are placed onto and bond continuously with the peripheries of each adjacent pair of the reinforcing coils, with a leading edge region of each new wrap of the web overlying and bonding to a trailing edge region of a prior web wrap. Central portions of each web wrap extend radially inwardly and are sandwiched between adjacent reinforcing coils when the hose is retracted to a minimal axial length.

摘要: A method of forming a flexible, stretchable, crush resistant axially extending hose includes: providing coils entirely of thermoplastic material to form a continuous and hollow helix; providing a thin, narrow, elongate web of thermoplastic material that extends between adjacent coils of the helix and has edge regions welded to adjacent ones of the coils to form a single continuous wall with the web having a centrally located fold situated between adjacent ones of the coils; and subjecting the hose to an annealing process while axially compressing the hose so that molecules of the thermoplastic material forming the coils of the helix and the thin elongate web are relaxed such that stress is substantially absent from the hose when the coils of the helix are close together.
