    摘要: A first signal representing a reduced size video program is transmitted from a central location to a plurality of user terminals in a television signal. A second signal representative of an EPG is generated at one of the user terminals. The first and second signals are linearly combined and applied to a display monitor to display the reduced size video program and the EPG on the screen of the monitor simultaneously in a PIG format. In one embodiment a plurality of reduced size video programs are transmitted in the television signal and one of them is selected for display in a PIG format by marking the program listing in the EPG corresponding to the selected reduced size video program with a cursor.

    摘要: A television control system automatically tunes a television set to receive and display a desired program telecast at a future time. This is done by keying in a PLUS CODEnull number defining the channel, time, day, and length (CTDL data) of the program or selecting the program from an on-screen program guide to capture the CTDL data from an EPG data base stored in memory. The CTDL data is stored in a stack memory until the time of the program. The microprocessor monitors the stack memory. The microprocessor tunes the television set to the channel on which the desired program is telecast and turns the television set on at the time of the desired program. If the television set is already on at the time of the desired program, the television set is not turned off at the conclusion of the desired program, i.e., it remains on. However, if the television set is off at the time of the desired program, the television set is turned off again at the conclusion of the desired program. This results in the television set not being left on when the residents are away from home while the scheduled tuning feature is being used.

    摘要: Digital compressed codes, associated with advertisements enable a user to selectively record additional information, which would be broadcast on a television channel at a later time. The advertisement could be print advertisement or broadcast advertisement on television or radio. The user enters the digital code (I code) associated with an advertisement into a unit with a decoding means which automatically converts the code into CTL (channel, time and length). The unit within a twenty four hour period activates a VCR to record information on the television channel at the right time for the proper length of time. The decoded channel, time and length information can be communicated directly to a VCR and used by the VCR directly to automatically activate the VCR to record a given television information broadcast corresponding to the communicated channel, time and length. Alternately, the channel, time and length information can be decoded directly in a remote control unit and only start record, stop record and channel selection commands sent to the VCR at the appropriate times. Algorithms for decoding the I codes can be a function of time to ensure security of the decoding method. A method is included for use of the I codes with cable channels.

    摘要: An embodiment of the present invention is a method for programming a controller for selection, from a plurality a set of infra red (IR) codes, set of IR codes for subsequent control of IR signal communication with a video cassette recorder (VCR). Each set of IR codes is for communicating with a different corresponding VCR. To this end, each such VCR has a tuner, which, when tuned to an actual channel of broadcast video signals, provides video signals derived from the actual channel to a video output thereof. A signal is provided to the VCR where the signal is predetermined by a selected IR code which is selected from one of the sets of IR codes. This causes the VCR to perform a predetermined operation. The video output of the VCR is monitored for a predetermined signal condition, such as a video signal being present, or for a label broadcast in the video signals. A set of IR codes is then selected for subsequent signal communication with the VCR. The set of IR codes which is selected is the one from which the selected IR code is selected which results in the predetermined signal condition.
