Abstract:
Ammunition containers incorporate an advanced sealing/latching arrangement as well as a lightning mitigation scheme that exhibits a number of advantageous features. A cover assembly is provided that separates the latching functionality from the sealing functionality such that the latching assembly is rotatably engaged and the cover seal is provided via radial (rather than axial) compression of an annular sealing component. In addition, a novel lightning mitigation system also functions as a convenient method of grasping and transporting the containers.
Abstract:
A payload mount adapter assembly for use with an aircraft is disclosed. The payload mount adapter assembly includes, but is not limited to an upper section that is configured for mounting to the aircraft and a lower section that is configured to receive a payload. The lower section is releasably engaged with the upper section such that the lower section is substantially unadjustable with respect to the upper section when the lower section is in a fixed state and the lower section is substantially adjustable with respect to the upper section when the lower section is in a released state.
Abstract:
A weapon system includes a receiver and an operating group with a barrel extension arranged to axially translate relative to the receiver. In the firing condition, the op-rod assembly and bolt assembly are driven by the drive spring such that the round is guided into the chamber and the op-rod assembly and bolt assembly are locked to the barrel extension and a forward momentum of the op-rod assembly is imparted to the operating group and the round is fired. A portion of an impulse stops the forward momentum of the operating group. In the recoil condition, the operating group is driven rearward by the remaining portion of the impulse, the gas accelerator imparts additional rearward momentum to the op-rod assembly and bolt assembly and stops rearward momentum of the barrel and barrel extension, and the op-rod assembly and the bolt assembly are stopped by the drive spring.
Abstract:
A vessel, such as a rocket motor tube, comprised of an insert, and a joint that allows the insert to decouple from the vessel to relieve pressure when subjected to excessive temperatures and/or a predetermined temperature or temperature range.
Abstract:
An action timer start switch, a breech block with an integral action timer start switch and a system for measuring internal ballistic data in a test weapon system are described herein. The action timer start switch includes a through-hammer adjustable contact having a first contact element and a contact switch supported on the breech block having a second contact element. The first contact element is adjustable for contacting the second contact element when the hammer is a position to generating a primer strike. The first contact element may be set by simply positioning the breech block in the in-battery position with the hammer in the ignition position and moving the adjustable contact relative to the contact switch through the breech of the universal receiver.
Abstract:
A machine gun assembly includes, but is not limited to, a receiver, a barrel extension, and an interlock element. The barrel extension is mounted to the receiver and moves between forward and retracted positions with respect to the receiver. The barrel extension is configured for quick-release engagement with a barrel. The interlock element is mounted to the receiver and moves between a blocking position and a clear position. The interlock element has a blocking portion positioned to obstruct movement of the barrel extension to the forward position while in the blocking position and the blocking portion is positioned to permit movement of the barrel extension to the forward position while in the clear position. The interlock element moves to the blocking position when the barrel disengages from the barrel extension and moves to the clear position when the barrel is correctly engaged with the barrel extension.
Abstract:
A capacitive reactive armor assembly for shielding a vehicle is disclosed herein. The capacitive reactive armor includes, but is not limited to, a first flyer plate, a second flyer plate, and a capacitor positioned between the first flyer plate and the second flyer plate. The capacitor is configured to store an electric charge and to explosively short circuit when the capacitor is penetrated while the capacitor is electrically charged. The explosive release of energy from the capacitor pushes the first and second flyer plates apart interfering with the penetration of a shaped charge jet or ballistic penetrator.
Abstract:
Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to an electric motor drive system for driving a low-voltage motor. The low-voltage motor includes a rotor and a stator that comprises a number of single-turn coils. A motor drive controller can control the low-voltage motor. The motor drive controller includes a current source inverter. The current source inverter includes driver circuitry configured to generate switching commands, a variable current source and motor commutation circuitry. The variable current source can generate a variable current that regulates power in the low-voltage motor. The motor commutation circuitry receives the variable current and switching commands, and commutates phase currents that are output to the low-voltage motor.
