摘要： In an insulation blanket-packaging machine and method for continuously packaging insulation blanket in the form of batts there is a continuous: infeed of batts into a loading station; movement of batts from the loading station into a transfer station that also functions as a batt-stacking station; formation of a batt stack in the transfer station; compression of a batt stack in a compression station; envelopment of a compressed batt stack within sheet material in a packaging station to form a package; and removal of a package from the machine. The machine can also be used to package insulation blanket in roll form.

摘要： A method and apparatus for chopping long unwound items like fiber, fiber strands, yarn, etc. The chopper has a backup roll, a blade roll and a biasing system for forcing the backup roll and the blade roll together at a desired force during set up and operation. The biasing system contains a mechanism such as a slip clutch or a limited torque stepping motor for maintaining a substantially constant biasing force at set up and during operation while allowing the rolls to separate slightly to pass a temporary thicker feed without recoil that currently shortens blade and backup roll working layer life.

摘要： A new foam coated nonwoven fibrous mat having properties particularly suited for a facer on gypsum wallboard, laminates made therefrom and the method of making the mat is disclosed. The mat preferably contains a major portion of glass fibers and a minor portion of a resinous binder. The foam coating is permeable and reduces fiber dust and abrasion experienced in the past with relatively coarse, relatively inexpensive glass fibers in the mat. Contrary to previous methods, the foam coated fibrous mat is made in-line on a wet mat forming production line by applying a wet foam binder onto a wet, fibrous web followed by drying and curing in-line.

摘要： A polymeric fiber liner insulation includes of a resilient, insulation blanket core of randomly oriented entangled fibers with between 60% and 90% by weight of the fibers being standard polymeric fibers and/or flame retardant polymeric fibers and between 10% and 40% by weight of the fibers being polymeric lofting and bonding fibers. The first major surface the liner insulation has a low porosity or air and/or liquid impervious surface layer. The surface layer is formed by melting and consolidating fibers at and adjacent the first major surface of the blanket core or by coating the first major surface of the blanket core with a polymeric coating. The liner insulation exhibits a flame spread/smoke developed index of ≦25/50.

The facing may include a fungi growth-inhibiting agent, be perforated to provide a selected water vapor permeance, and/or may include a heat activated bonding agent. The facing may have lateral tabs that are transparent, sufficiently open to enable wallboard to be directly bonded to framing members overlaid by the tabs, and/or of greater integrity than the field portion of the facing. The field portion of the facing may include a coating to stiffen the facing, inhibit fungi growth, and/or decrease flame spread and smoke formation.

摘要： A burn through and flame propagation resistant system, includes a sheet of burn through and flame propagation resistant paper made of aramid fibers, mica flakes, and aramid fibrid binder; and one or more sheets of polymeric film, preferably, flame propagation resistant polymeric film, bonded to at least one major surface of the sheet of burn through and flame propagation resistant paper to form a laminated sheet. Preferably, for many applications, the system is also water vapor transmission resistant with the sheet or sheets of polymeric film or a coating providing the water vapor transmission resistance. The burn through and flame propagation resistant paper and/or polymeric film(s) may have major surface(s) coated with a heat sealable adhesive, e.g. for securing the laminated sheet to itself or another laminated sheet to form a bag or envelope for encapsulating insulation. The laminated sheet may be used as a covering or bag that encapsulates insulation material or as a layer overlaying, intermediate or underlaying one or more layers of insulation material. As an alternative to the laminated sheet, the system may include a sheet of burn through and flame propagation resistant paper which is treated with a heat and/or ultrasonically sealable, moisture and flame propagation resistant polyvinylfluoride water based emulsion.

The chopper has a number of improved features for reducing the frequency of long fibers or long fiber strands and fuzz from getting into the chopped product. The chopper can have one or any combination of the improvements. The improvements include a strand guide located at least two feet up stream of the chopper, a first starting roll for starting a new strand that runs on a fluid bearing that can be adjusted to control the RPM of the first starting roll, a mount for a roll that runs against the peripheral surface of said back up roll, a strand guide insert for reducing fuzz generation and for preventing fuzz from getting into the product, and a deflector plate for catching and deflecting chopped strands thrown off the back up roll into a chopped strand product chute.
