摘要:
Systems and methods are provided for compensating for optical brighteners found in print media while calibrating a printer. The system is able to determine reflectance values for a print medium, to determine reflectance values for a colorant applied to the print medium, and to alter the determined reflectance values for the colorant based on the reflectance values of the print medium. The system is further able to calibrate a printer that applied the colorant to the print medium based on the altered reflectance values.

Systems and methods are provided for altering the content of a PDF print job. The printing system includes a memory, an interface, and a markup engine. The memory includes criteria for identifying Portable Document Format (PDF) content stored in print jobs, and also includes a mark-up instruction for altering printable PDF content stored in print jobs, where the mark-up instruction references one or more of the criteria. The interface is operable to receive a PDF print job for processing. The markup engine is operable to access the mark-up instruction, to review the PDF print job to identify multiple segments of the print job that each include PDF content that matches the one or more criteria referenced by the mark-up instruction, and to alter the identified segments based on the mark-up instruction.

A method is disclosed. The method includes receiving print job data, rasterizing the print job data to generate image data for each page of the print job data to be printed, calculating a coverage per unit area for two or more color planes of each page of the image data and calculating a flushing mask to flush nozzles of the inkjet print head.

A method is disclosed. The method includes simulating a preprinted form using a presentation overlay. The presentation device is directed to present the overlay as if it had been preprinted on the paper. Document data is then mixed with the simulated preprinted form such that the result accurately simulates a real preprinted form.

A computer generated method disclosed. The method includes receiving a print job data stream, determining if the print job data stream comprises a secure print job, and inserting a control operator to designate a secure print job data stream if the print job data stream comprises a secure print job.

Systems and methods for using conversion arrays to transform image in print jobs to different color depths. In one embodiment, the system stores a plurality of conversion arrays for converting images of print jobs encoded according to a page description language. The system receives a print job encoded according to the page description language, locates an image in the encoded print job, and identifies an existing color depth of the image, a pel color range, and a desired output color depth for the image. The system further selects a conversion array from the memory based on at least one of the existing color depth of the image, the pel color range, and the desired output color depth, and converts the image from the existing color depth of the image to the desired output color depth using the conversion array. The system further transmits the converted image for printing.

Methods, systems, and apparatus for improved ease and flexibility in defining attribute values for jobs in a workflow processing system. The job attributes are presented to a user grouped or organized by their relationship to various elements of the workflow model used to process the job type. Further, default values for job attributes may be flexibly defined based on elements of the workflow model that utilize the job attribute and/or based on dynamic computations of functions involving the various job attributes and other parameters.

Methods and systems herein provide for color conversion. Such color conversion may be performed via a color conversion system that includes a converter operable to receive image data and convert color values of the image data to a color space for printing. The system also includes a color identification module operable to identify color regions in the image data for color component limitation and approximate color values in the color regions. The color identification module incorporates color limitations during these approximations computes numerical models based on the approximations that are used by the converter to convert the image data to the color space.

A printer output coverage estimation system permits a user of print services to obtain an accurate estimate of the amount of toner required by a print job. Providers of print services, including coverage estimations, may be identified through the Internet and selected by the user from a web interface. The estimate request may then be transmitted directly to the provider that fulfills the request using excess computing capacity. Alternatively, providers may register excess computing capacity with a broker. The broker matches job requests with a grid of providers and directs the job request to the matched provider(s). Thus, users of print services have an alternative to purchasing in-house computing resources that may remain idle much of the time.

Production printing systems are disclosed. The production printing system comprises a printhead array operable to discharge ink to print on a printable medium, and an ink tray that is affixed in the printing system facing the printhead array. The ink tray has a bottom section that is open. The production printing system further comprises a tray insert adapted to rest in the ink tray and to be lifted from the ink tray, and an ink absorbing element adapted to rest in the tray insert and operable to absorb ink that is discharged from the printhead array when the ink does not contact the printable medium. With the tray insert removed from the ink tray, the printhead array is visible through the bottom of the ink tray so that the printheads may be inspected or cleaned.
