    摘要: A surgical reducing instrument is used to position an elongated implant element in a desired position relative to one or more of the bone anchors of a spinal implant system. The reducing instrument includes a mounting member that is mounted to the anchor and extends along a first longitudinal axis and an implant reducing member pivotally linked to the mounting member that extends along a second longitudinal axis that is offset from and variably positionable relative to the first longitudinal axis about a pivot axis. The reducing member contacts the implant element and includes a manipulation portion to move the implant element along the second longitudinal axis and can maintain contact to move the implant element toward the bone anchor when the reducing member is pivoted relative to the mounting member about the pivot axis.

The surgical instrument is adapted to be minimally invasive. The surgical instrument can be anchored into position by a stability pin. Further, the surgical instrument can guide a chisel or other instrument to the intervertebral space to resect a portion of a vertebral endplate. In at least one embodiment, the surgical instrument is also capable of distracting the disc space.

The second channel opens at a side surface of the body. Preferably, the channels open in substantially perpendicular directions.     摘要: A spinous process clamp employs a pair of elongate plates that are positioned on either side of the spinous processes of vertebrae that are to be fused. The plates are joined by fasteners, preferably bolts and nuts. The plates include a recess on the bone facing side of the plate for retaining a bone growth promoting substance. When the bolts and nuts are tightened, the spinous processes are clamped between the plates, thereby pressing the bone growth promoting substance against the bone and encouraging bone growth across the vertebrae fixed by the plates.

    摘要: The present application is directed to devices and methods for contouring an implant. The implant is constructed of a material that is moldable when heated above a glass transition temperature. The devices and methods provide for applying heat while the implant is within the patient. The temperature of the implant or a section of the implant is elevated above the glass transition temperature to contour the implant to the desired shape. Once contoured, the devices and methods include removing the heat causing the implant to cool below the glass transition temperature to a substantially solid state. In various embodiments, the devices generally include a body, a contact section positioned on the body, and a heater that heats the contact section.
