摘要: The present invention provides novel attenuated Pasteurella multocida strains that may be used, in live or killed form, to formulate vaccines that are highly protective against P. multocida infection in bovines, other mammals, and in birds. The present invention also identifies the combination of nanP and hyaC gene mutations as key to the provision of such vaccines. When appropriately formulated, antigenic material of numerous other bovine pathogens may be combined with the live attenuated Pasteurella multocida strains, to make effective combination vaccines.

摘要: The hand carried enhanced penetrometer includes an electrical linear actuator system to advance a soil penetration rod into a test site soil during a penetrometer test. The penetrometer also includes a base plate system that uses an operator's static body weight to anchor the penetrometer to a test site surface during a penetrometer test. In operation, an operator places at least one foot on a penetrometer structural base plate and activates the linear actuator to advance a penetration rod into the test site soil. The tripod embodiment of the system includes an operator's seat that allows an operator to conduct a penetrometer test in a seated position while passively anchoring the penetrometer in place at the test site. The invention includes monopod, bipod, and tripod embodiments.

摘要: The present invention is directed to an isolated synthetic tripeptide of formula H-D-Phe-N-Methyl-L-Val-L-Ala-OMe (SEQ ID NO:1), or a derivative thereof, and to the corresponding lipotripeptides, which are specific to Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis (Map) S-type strain, as well as derivatives and conjugates thereof. The invention also concerns the use of these antigens in different methods and tests for detecting Map infection, especially by detecting humoral response and cell mediated response of infected animals. The invention is also directed to a genetic signature of Map and a mass spectrometry and NMR spectroscopy signature of Map presence or infection.

摘要: A method for determining the mated status of female fruit flies, focusing on determining the presence of spermatozoa in a sample fly's ventral receptacle (VR). The ventral receptacle is the organ where eggs become fertilized. The VR is the first and last organ in a mated female fly to contain spermatozoa. The VR is thus the most accurate organ for determining whether a female fruit fly has recently mated. The method is a squash method. The fly's ventral receptacle is isolated, and then squeezed so as to cause spermatozoa stored in the ventral receptacle to be released into the lumen of the VR. This permits use of a microscope to determine the presence or absence of spermatozoa in the female fruit fly, and thus the mated status of the female fruit fly.

摘要: Aspergillus flavus is an opportunistic, saprophytic fungus that infects maize and other fatty acid-rich food and feed crops and produces toxic and carcinogenic secondary metabolites known as aflatoxins. In vitro studies showed a five-fold increase in antifungal activity of AGM182 (vs. tachyplesin1) against A. flavus. Transgenic maize plants expressing AGM182 under maize Ubiquitin-1 promoter were produced through Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. PCR products confirmed integration of the AGM182 gene, while RT-PCR of maize RNA confirmed the presence of AGM182 transcripts. Maize kernel screening assay using a highly aflatoxigenic A. flavus strain (AF70) showed up to 72% reduction in fungal growth in the transgenic AGM182 seeds compared to isogenic negative control seeds.
