摘要: Bacterial live vector vaccines represent a vaccine development strategy that offers exceptional flexibility. In the present invention, genes encoding protective antigens of unrelated bacterial, viral, parasitic, or fungal pathogens are expressed in an attenuated bacterial vaccine strain that delivers these foreign antigens to the immune system, thereby eliciting relevant immune responses. Rather than expressing these antigens using only low copy expression plasmids, expression of foreign proteins is accomplished using both low copy expression plasmids in conjunction with chromosomal integrations within the same live vector. This strategy compensates for the inherent disadvantage of loss of gene dosage (versus exclusive plasmid-based expression) by integrating antigen expression cassettes into multiple chromosomal sites already inactivated in an attenuated vector.

摘要: The present invention relates to a process for preparing a highly pure neurotoxic component of a botulinum toxin by cultivating clostridium botulinum under conditions that allow production of a botulinum toxin, and isolating the neurotoxic component from the botulinum toxin. In addition, the present invention relates to a highly pure neurotoxic component of a botulinum toxin obtainable by the process of the present invention and uses thereof.

摘要: A polyclonal antibody composition prepared from eggs of immunized hens is used to treat C. difficile infections. Respective groups of hens are immunized with Toxin A or Toxin B of Clostridium difficile or a Clostridium difficile spore preparation. The polyclonal antibodies are recovered from eggs pooled from the immunized hens and the resulting powder is administered in a therapeutically effective amount to individuals infected with or suspected of being infected with C. difficile.

摘要: Compositions consisting of bioactive molecules derived from the microbiota of a mammal are provided herein. When administered orally with a colonic delivery system, the compositions are useful for the prophylaxis and treatment of diseases, in particular inflammatory, autoimmune and infectious diseases. The compositions comprise combinations of small molecules and bacterial antigens formulated in colonic delivery systems. Use of the compositions results in any or all of: induction of immune tolerance; strengthening of the gut mucosal barrier integrity; reduction of inflammation; and amelioration of a disease state caused by inflammation, an autoimmune reaction or an infectious agent.

摘要: Capsular saccharides derived from serogroups W135 and Y of Neisseria meningitidis have altered levels of O-acetylation at the 7 and 9 positions of their sialic acid residues, and can be used to make immunogenic compositions. Relative to unmodified native saccharides, derivatives of the invention are preferentially selected during conjugation to carrier proteins, and conjugates of the derivatives show improved immunogenicity compared to native polysaccharides.
