摘要: A rotary lawn mower has one or more grass cutting blades that are rotatable in opposite directions about a vertical axis or axes. Each blade is double edged having front and rear cutting edges on each end of the blade. Each blade end has a front sloped face inboard of the front cutting edge and a rear sloped face inboard of the rear cutting edge. These faces create air flow within the cutting chamber when cutting grass regardless of the direction of rotation of the blade. The direction of rotation of each blade is reversed to switch between discharge and mulching modes of operation. A flow director has a curved vertical guide wall that guides the grass clippings through a discharge opening in the discharge mode and that guides the flow of grass clippings away from the discharge opening in the mulching mode.

The blade assembly includes an upper blade mounted about a blade rotation axis and an upper blade proximal portion being substantially flat and including a first cutting edge. A lower blade is mounted in overlap with the upper blade about the blade rotation axis. The lower blade includes a lower blade proximal portion positioned outward from the lower blade mounting portion in a radial direction, a lower blade end portion positioned outward from the lower blade proximal portion and below the lower blade proximal portion, and a second cutting edge. A lower blade falling portion transitions from the lower blade proximal portion to the lower blade end portion.

A guard (116) is configured to extend substantially from the first lateral side to the second lateral side around the front side of the rotatable cutter holder (120). The guard (116) is configured to provide space for the cutting piece (122) to rotate freely within the guard (116) and is an apertured barrier that provides a protective buffer between the cutting piece (122) and a ground surface, thereby preventing engagement of the rotatable cutter holder (120) with the ground surface when the powered cutting tool (112) is translated over the ground surface.

摘要: A cutting and threshing blade for a bush hog, wherein the blade has a trailing edge and a leading edge. At least a third of the leading edge of the upper-side of an elongate distal portion of the blade has a knife edge with a knife length that thickens toward the trailing edge. The trailing edge can have an upward air deflector. The bottom-side of the elongate distal portion has a threshing element, which includes a threshing block, which is a steel block having a block length that is comparable to the knife length and projects downward and substantially parallel to the knife edge. The rotating blades pummel growth carriers (i.e.; cob, husk) bearing seeds, grains, and kernels with enough force that they are released. The synergistic rotating knife edge and threshing block transform the bush hogging process from a cutting process to a cutting and threshing process.
