    Abstract: The present disclosure describes an apparatus, system, and method for trapping and exterminating arthropods, particularly red mites. The apparatus includes an opaque housing and a heat strip configured to have separate temperature zones. The method includes warming the heat strip to lure the mites into the trap, heating outer heat strip segments to drive the mites toward the center of the trap, and then raising the entire heat strip to a temperature sufficient to exterminate the mites. The system includes placing one or more of the traps in animal hold structures, including nesting boxes in poultry houses.

    Abstract: A health monitoring system for caged birds is described. An enclosure containing sensors and associated circuitry mounts to the outside of a bird cage with a perch protruding into the cage.The sensors included in the present embodiment are a strain gauge load cell for bird weight measuring, a temperature sensor, and an ambient light sensor. The load cell is used with a perch such that the bird's weight can be measured whenever they alight upon the perch. Also included is a piezoelectric sensor to measure vibration data from the cage itself, which is used as a proxy for the bird's activity level. Associated circuitry and software processes and transmits this data to an internet-hosted server. The user can access this information to track a caged bird's weight, activity level, and environmental conditions over time.

    Abstract: A U-shaped perch for a bird feeder which is selectively movable between retracted and extended positions with respect to the bird feeder. The perch is horizontally slidably mounted in a support at the lower end of a feed port positioned in a feed opening formed in the bird feeder. The perch is selectively locked in its extended position. The perch and the support cooperate to limit the outward extension of the perch with respect to the support. The perch may also be movably mounted on the bird feeder which does not have a feed port.

    Abstract: A bird feeder is provided having a seed reservoir with a side wall that has at least one seed access opening and an adjustable feed port assembly. The feed port assembly includes a base mounted to the side wall in a fixed relationship thereto and having a central opening in communication with the seed in the reservoir. Fitted to the base is a rotatable insert having a perch coupled thereto in fixed relationship so that the perch and insert rotate as a unit. The insert is rotatable between two positions, an upright position in which the perch is below the base central opening enabling birds to feed while standing on the perch, and an upside down position in which the perch is above the base central opening, requiring birds to hang upside down from the perch to feed.

    Abstract: A bird feeder is provided having adjustable port access. The feeder includes a seed reservoir with a side wall that has at least one seed access opening and an adjustable feed port element. According to one embodiment, the adjustable feed port element is a feed port assembly. The feed port assembly includes a base with a rotatable insert having a perch coupled thereto in fixed relationship so that the perch and insert rotate as a unit.     Abstract: A port and perch insert for fitting into an aperture in a wall of a container of a bird feeder comprises a two-part combination of a first part with a port having, a first engaging element to engage the container wall within the container and a second part in the form of a locking member engageable with the first part and having a second engaging element which engages with the container wall when the two parts are inserted and locked together. The first and second engaging elements between them retain the insert in engagement with the container wall in such a way that the second part must be disengaged from the first to enable both parts to be removed from the container wall. The second part suitably comprises a U-shaped perch section and a part-cylindrical recess which engages a correspondingly shaped surface on the first part, enabling it to pivot so that its engaging member engages in a slot of the container wall and the perch section fits within a similarly shaped perch section of the first part to form a U-shaped perch adjacent the port.

    Abstract: An animal feeder includes a feed bin configured to hold feed stock. The feed bin has a first feed port. The animal feeder also includes an outer housing positioned around at least a portion of the feed bin. The outer housing has a second feed port. The animal feeder further includes a magnet supported by one of the feed bin and the outer housing. The magnet magnetically couples the outer housing to the feed bin.     Abstract: A raptor perch apparatus for use at the top of a power pole for raptors to perch and nest without contacting the power lines supported by the power pole. In a preferred embodiment, the apparatus comprises a hub bracket having a center member received over the top of the power pole and a plurality of socket-like lateral brackets extending outwardly from the center member to support a plurality of lateral support members extending outwardly from the pole, preferably at a slight upward angle. The proximal end of the lateral support members is received in the lateral brackets. A guy wire or the like is received through a ring member on an end cap at the distal end of each lateral support member to circumvent the distal ends thereof. If needed, a pole top extension can be used to raise the apparatus above the top of the power pole.
