Abstract:
This invention relates to a lyocell material for a tobacco filter and a method of manufacturing the same, and more particularly to a lyocell fiber having a modified cross-section for a tobacco filter, wherein the cross-sectional shape of a monofilament contained in a lyocell fiber is controlled to increase the external surface area of the fiber, after which then crimps are formed, thereby exhibiting properties equal or superior to those of conventional lyocell materials, even when used in a small amount.
Abstract:
The non-combustible tobacco vaping insert includes a filter having a first diameter, and a non-combustible tobacco element with a first end contacting the filter. At least one first portion of the tobacco element has a second diameter that is smaller than the first diameter of the filter. The cartridge includes a heater configured to vaporize a pre-vapor formulation that is communicated to the heater by a wick. The insert is positioned in at least a portion of an air passage within cartridge, where the insert is configured to allow vapor that is generated by the heater to pass through the insert prior to being discharged from the cartridge.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to filter material for inclusion in a smoking article, said filter material comprising a base material comprising or made from fibers having a first diameter or mean diameter, and fine fibers having a diameter or mean diameter which is smaller than the first diameter, wherein the filter material comprises more than 10% by weight and/or by volume fine fibers or wherein the diameter or mean diameter of the fine fibers is between about 1.0 μm and about 1.5 μm. The invention also relates to filters or filter elements comprising the filter material, smoking articles comprising the same, and use of the filter material in smoke filtration.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a filter manufacturing apparatus (1) to form a hollow filter body, the filter manufacturing apparatus comprising: —a feed path adapted to continuously feed a filter material along a longitudinal transport direction (30); —a forming device (4) connected to a terminating end of the feed path and adapted to form the filter material into a hollow rod-shaped filter body and deliver the formed filter body, the forming device including: ▪ a tubular forming element (8) adapted to allow the filter material to pass therethrough, ▪ a pin (34) extending longitudinally within the tubular forming element, the pin having a pin diameter;—a diameter changing device (40), adapted to vary the pin diameter of the pin, so as to obtain a filter body having a through hole of variable diameter.
Abstract:
A process for preparing a filter plug for a smoking article, such as a cigarette, includes: (a) freeze-drying a solution of a biopolymer to form a structure; and (b) cutting the structure to a predetermined dimension, to thereby prepare a filter plug for a smoking article. Another process for preparing a filter plug for a smoking article, such as a cigarette, includes: (a) extruding a mixture of a foaming agent and a biopolymer comprising a protein to form a structure; and (b) cutting the structure to a predetermined dimension, to thereby form a filter plug for a smoking article.
Abstract:
Disclosed are fibers which contain identification fibers. The identification fibers can contain a plurality of distinct features, or taggants, which vary among the fibers and/or along the length of the identification fibers, tow band, or yarn. The disclosed embodiments also relate to the method for making the fibers. Characterization of the fibers can include identifying distinct features, combinations of distinct features, and number of fibers with various combinations of distinct features and correlating the distinct features to supply chain information. The supply chain information can be used to track the fibers, fiber band, or yarn from manufacturing through intermediaries, conversion to final product, and/or the consumer.
Abstract:
Disclosed are fibers which contain identification fibers. The identification fibers can contain a one or more of chemical markers and one or more distinct features, or taggants, which may vary among the fibers or be incorporated throughout all of the fibers. The chemical markers and distinct features can be representative of specific supply chain information. The supply chain information can be used to track the fibers from manufacturing through intermediaries, conversion to final product, and/or the consumer. The disclosed embodiments also relate to the method for making and characterizing the fibers. Characterization of the fibers can include identifying chemical markers and distinct features and correlating the chemical markers and distinct features to manufacturer-specific taggants to determine supply chain information.
