    摘要: A urinary tract valve includes an expandable valve element positionable within a bladder of a patient via a urinary tract of the patient in a collapsed configuration. The expandable valve element is configured to transition from the collapsed configuration to an expanded configuration after being positioned within the bladder of the patient. The expandable valve element includes a ferromagnetic element that facilitates selective control of the expandable valve element with a magnetic field between an open position and a closed position when positioned within the bladder of the patient. In the closed position, the expandable valve element is configured to seal an internal urethral opening of the patient. In the open position, the expandable valve element is configured to allow urine to pass from the bladder of the patient, through an internal urethral opening of the patient and into a urethra of the patient.

    摘要: An incontinence treatment device includes a band attached to a pendant. The band is implantable around a portion of a urethra and has a first magnet connected to a first end portion of the band and a second magnet connected to a second end portion of the band. The pendant is connected to and extends from the band. The pendant has a shape that configures the pendant to be implantable into a scrotum and a thickness that configures the pendant to be implantable into a labia. The pendant encloses a switch and a power source that are electrically coupled to the first magnet and the second magnet. The switch has an on position to constrict the band around the urethra and an off position in which substantially zero current is provided to decouple the first magnet from the second magnet.

    摘要: A structure that can be used as a gastric band (and that may also have other uses as an implant elsewhere in a patient) includes a plurality of magnetic elements in a serial array that can be implanted so that the array extends in a circumferential direction around the patient's stomach (or other body tissue structure in the patient). Circumferentially adjacent magnetic elements magnetically attract one another to apply radial pressure to the tissue structure encompassed by the array, but those elements can also move apart in response to sufficient outward pressure from the encompassed tissue structure and/or the contents of (e.g., food in) that tissue structure. When used as a gastric band, the device can provide resistance to excessive food intake, which can help promote weight loss.

    摘要: A prosthesis for implanting in a patient may include an elongated, laterally flexible structure having first and second end portions that are spaced from one another along a length of the elongated structure. First and second magnetic structures may be respectively secured to the first and second end portions. The first and second magnetic structures may magnetically attract one another when brought into proximity with one another. This magnetic attraction can facilitate achieving desired final relative positioning and/or alignment of the magnetic structures. Thereafter, this magnetic attraction can keep (or help to keep) the end portions of the prosthesis proximate to one another, thereby forming the prosthesis into a desired closed ring shape.

    摘要: The present invention relates to an artificial sphincter provided with a valve implanted permanently on a duct or an organ, whether biological or not, during a surgical operation and which can then be easily activated from outside the human body by the patient and also easily adjusted from outside the human body during a postoperative session by a doctor. The valve (17) of the artificial sphincter comprises a rigid and airtight housing (1, 3, 16), provided with a support conduit (11) receiving the duct (2), and a strap (4) compressing this duct against a wall of the conduit, this strap being kept tight by a spring mechanism (12) which presses a lower disk (6) bearing a first magnet (9), the whole assembly being mobile in axial translation in the housing. It also comprises an upper disk (14) screwed in the housing, forming an axial stop for the first magnet and bearing a second magnet (15). A permanent magnet (18) outside the human body makes it possible to activate the first magnet (9) to loosen the strap (4) and open said duct (2). A rotating electromagnet (27) outside the human body makes it possible to make the second magnet (15) and the upper disk (14) rotate to adjust the tension of the strap and the degree of closure of the duct (2).

    摘要: An involuntary urine control device (IUCD) having an inflatable collar membrane. The IUCD is inserted a short distance into the distal end of the urethra of a subject user. The IUCD includes the collar membrane which comprises an open ended tube of inflatable membrane material, typically about 30% to 90% of the length of the device. The collar membrane, in its inflated state, serves the purpose of providing sealing between the periphery of the urine control device and the urethra wall. The collar membrane is inflated to move radially outward once the urine control device is inserted into the distal end of the urethra of a patient by the external supply of a fluid. The collar membrane in its deflated state, namely with the inflating fluid removed, is substantially flush with the external diameters of the outer jacket of the urine control device to accommodate the thickness of the collar membrane.
