摘要: A first disclosed connector part (110) for establishing a fluid connection with a second connector part comprises a valve (111) with a valve seat (112), the valve seat comprising a valve chamber (116), and a circular opening with a circumferential sealing lip (114); a valve member (113), the valve member being provided in the valve chamber, and being able to sealingly close the circular opening of the valve seat when being pushed against the circular opening; and a resilient element (115) that subjects the valve member to a bias force pushing the valve member against the circular opening of the valve seat. The valve member further comprises a circumferential wall around the circular opening, located on the side of the circular opening opposite to the valve chamber. The circumferential wall forms a concave receptacle (18) for receiving a corresponding connection cone of a second connector part, the concave receptacle having the shape of a truncated cone and facing away from the valve chamber, the circular opening being located in the centre of the concave receptacle. A second disclosed second connector part (150) for establishing a fluid connection with the first connector part comprises a right circular truncated cone (151) for being received in a corresponding concave receptacle of a first connector part; a recess (153) at the tip of the truncated cone for actuating a valve member of a first connector part; and a fluid feed conduit (152). The fluid feed conduit has one or more outlets (154) opening at least partially toward the shell surface of the cone (151).

摘要: An implantable vascular access port for providing repeated therapy to a patient in need of such therapy, the access port, upon repeated use, presents each time an access needle at a new location so as to minimize scarring injury to the skin of the patient. The vascular access port may include a body, a cover comprising a plurality of openings, at least one needle comprising a tip and a shaft, the shaft defining a lumen, a needle elevator mechanism to operate the position of the at least one needle in at least a retracted position in which the at least one needle is disposed in the body and the needle tip below the cover and an extended position in which the at least one needle is engaged through at least a first one of the openings, and a needle shift mechanism to move the at least one needle from a first position in which the needle can engage the at least a first one of the openings, to a second position in which the needle can engage at least a second one of the openings.

摘要: A venous access port assembly (10) having a housing base (22) with a discharge stem (16), a septum (14), a cap (20) and an interior reservoir (26). The port assembly (10) is provided with X-ray discernable indicia (60,62) to identify an attribute of the assembly (10) after its implantation and clearly appear on an X-ray of the patient in a manner informing the radiologist or technologist and the medical practitioner of that particular attribute. The indicia are cutouts (60,62) through a reservoir lining (50) of radiopaque material such as metal where the cutouts have narrow slot width are in the form of one or more sets of alphabetical letters such as “CT” in the lining's side wall (52) or bottom wall (54).

摘要: Transdermal insertion of a transcutaneous filling apparatus, for the purpose of filling a fill chamber of an implanted therapy delivery device, is monitored by measuring each impedance between pairs of electrodes of a needle of the apparatus, and comparing each to a threshold impedance; the electrodes, preferably at least three in number, are isolated and spaced apart from one another along a length of the needle. A confirmation signal is generated when at least one of the measured impedances is greater than the threshold impedance, and another is less than the threshold, the condition indicating that one of the electrodes is located within a non-conductive septum, through which the apparatus must pass to access the fill chamber. A detection circuit, which may be located in a housing of the apparatus that is attached to a proximal end of the needle, measures and compares the impedances.

摘要: Generally described herein are certain embodiments directed to an orientation-independent injection port fluidly coupled to a gastric banding system. The injection port may be configured to simplify the port-targeting process when a medical professional attempts to penetrate the injection port with a needle during a gastric band-adjusting procedure. For example, the injection port may be orientation-independent with the entire outer shell acting as the needle access point. Alternatively, and/or in addition, the inner core of the injection port may be hard or firm, thereby allowing for easier locating (e.g., when the medical professional performs palpation). Furthermore, the hard inner core may prevent needle over-throws, and help stabilize pressure.

摘要: An external pressure sensing system may include an attachment for a syringe. The attachment may comprise a connector positioned between the barrel and the needle of the syringe. A pressure sensor may be in fluid communication with the connector, such that the pressure sensor may sense the pressure of fluid within the connector as the syringe is used to add fluid to or withdraw fluid from an injection port. Where an injection port is a component of an adjustable fluid-based gastric band system, pressure data obtained with the pressure sensor may be indicative of the pressure of fluid within the gastric band. The pressure sensor may communicate pressure data to a display device. A user may adjust the pressure of fluid within the gastric band using the syringe while viewing the display device for pressure-related readings.
