摘要: A fire-protection mechanism is described. The fire-protection mechanism includes multiple, overlapping cavities that can be filled with water (and, more generally, a fluid). When the fire-protection mechanism is deployed over an object, such as a building, and the cavities are filled with water, the fire-protection mechanism reduces the likelihood that the object is damaged by the heat associated with a fire proximate to the object, such as a wild fire. In particular, the heat capacity and latent heat of the water significantly increase the thermal time constant of the object, thereby reducing the likelihood of combustion. The fire-protection mechanism may include a reflective coating to redirect infrared radiation away from the object to provide further protection. In addition, the water in the cavities may be refilled, as needed, by directing a stream of water onto the fire-protection mechanism and/or through an internal channel in the fire-protection mechanism.

摘要: Described herein is a fire containment connector. It includes a female end to connect with a male coupling on a first fire hose and a male end to connect with a female coupling on a second fire hose. The fire containment connector also includes a cylindrical base that routes water from the first fire hose to the second fire hose. A cylindrical section of a sleeve rotates about a main body of the cylindrical base until the fire containment connector is in an open position. An oblong opening in the main body allows water to exit the cylindrical base and enter a hollow protuberance of the sleeve when the oblong opening and the hollow protuberance are aligned. A curved slit in the hollow protuberance expels a fan-shaped spray of water and a wall of water is formed.

摘要: A method of providing a deluge system (10) on a boom (12) such as a boom that is used to conduct well flaring operations at an end thereof. The deluge system comprises a base unit (30), a stanchion (20), and a nozzle apparatus (22); the method comprising attaching the deluge system to a burner boom with a walkway, such that there remains a width of at least 30 cm clear passage on the boom's walkway after the deluge system has been attached. This provides an escape and/or rescue route for personnel should a dangerous situation occur, such as uncontrolled fire or personnel falling overboard. In preferred embodiments, the deluge system is attached to the boom outboard of handrail supports (which includes on a single handrail). The deluge system may have its own mechanism e.g. a winch, for moving the stanchion from a stowed position to an operative position which allows a safe and more optimum positioning of the stanchion away from the well flaring operation, as herein described. In a preferred embodiment, the stanchion is provided as part of a moveable member which is rotationally attached to a connection mechanism of the base unit at a connection point spaced away from an end of the moveable member. This allows the moveable member to have a counter weight system and reduces the amount of force required to move the moveable member, avoiding mechanical constraints.

摘要: An automatically available curtain of water to the outside of a residence is provided by a residential fire-protection system. A supply line is provided from a swimming pool or other stored quantity of water to a pump. The pump provides water under pressure to a spray line, which may preferably be located on the ridges of the residence or may preferably be positioned at the level of the foundation of the residence. The spray line creates a wall or curtain of water between the structure and an approaching fire to prevent the residence from catching on fire. A plurality of heat sensors detect the approach of an exterior fire, and automatically initiate the fire protection system.

摘要: Method for extinguishing a fire in a space, especially in a tunnel or equivalent, in which method an extinguishing medium is sprayed in the space by means of spraying heads. In a first stage of the method, the flow and temperature of the hot gases produced by the fire are influenced by spraying an extinguishing medium into the space, especially by creating in the space at least one curtain (7) of extinguishing medium, and at least some spraying heads (11, 12) in the space are pre-activated into a state of readiness, and in a second stage at least one spraying head is activated to produce a spray of extinguishing medium. The invention also concerns an apparatus.

摘要: Methods and apparatus for extending lines for carrying fluids or signals are provided. The lines may be used to deliver fluids, signals and/or power. A wide range of applications include fighting wildfires, fire prevention, providing telecommunications and providing power. The apparatus for deploying a line can include an elongated carried part and a plurality of ground contacting parts that are coupled to and movable relative to the carried part. A plurality of actuators distributed along a length of the carried part are operable to move the ground contacting parts relative to one another and/or move the carried part relative to the ground contacting parts. The actuators are distributed over a length of the carried part. The ground contacting parts may, for example be arranged end to end or arranged in a parallel side-by side relationship.
