    Abstract: A clamping shank for a tool for clamping the tool into a rotary driving clamping device is proposed. The clamping shank comprises a circular shank portion and a pentagonal shank portion adjoining the circular shank portion. Four contiguous side faces of the pentagonal shank portion each form an angle of 90° to each other in a plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the clamping shank. A fifth side face of the pentagonal shank portion forms in said plane angles of greater than 90° with each of the adjacent side faces of the pentagonal shank portion.

    Abstract: An indexable drill insert (10) includes a top surface (12), a bottom surface (14), and a plurality of side surfaces (16) adjoining the top surface (12) and the bottom surface (14). A plurality of cutting edges (20) is formed by an intersection of a respective side surface (16) with the top surface (12). One aspect of the invention is that the top surface (12) includes a protruding portion (50) having a backwall (50a) and a segmented portion (52) extending radially outwardly with respect to the protruding portion (50) for effective chip breaking. Another aspect of the invention is that a rake surface (48) has a positive rake angle (RA) that varies along a first cutting edge section (22) of the cutting edge (20) to lower cutting force.

    Abstract: According to the present disclosure, a coated member is provided with a base material and a diamond layer located on the base material. When a ratio (SP3/SP2) obtainable from an SP3 peak derived from diamond crystals measurable by Raman spectroscopy and an SP2 peak derived from a graphite phase is referred to as an SP3 ratio, an SP3 ratio at a first measuring point with a thickness up to 1 μm extending from an interface of the base material and the diamond layer toward the diamond layer is higher than an SP3 ratio at a second measuring point that is intermediate in a thickness direction of the diamond layer.
