Abstract:
A reamer includes a cutting tip mounted in the circumferential wall of the base body of the cutting head of the reamer, and at least one guide bead located in a groove formed in the base body and extending in the longitudinal direction of the base body. The guide bead has a contact surface containing at least regionwise a diamond material.
Abstract:
A reamer with at least one cutter plate that is held by at least one clamping jaw located in a recess in the head of the reamer and having an opening for a clamping screw is proposed, said reamer being distinguished by the fact that the clamping jaw (5) is shaped essentially as a triangle when viewed from the top, that the opening (23) for the clamping screw (7) is located in a corner of the triangle, and that the lateral surfaces of the clamping jaw (5) starting from this corner form guide surfaces (13, 15), which are provided with contact surfaces in the recess (9) in the head of the reamer. By using this clamping jaw, the cutter plate can be optimally clamped and aligned without weakening the main body of the reamer. Both the flank and lateral surfaces of the clamping jaw interact with the stop surfaces in a recess (9) in such a manner that optimal diversion of the clamping forces in the main body of the reamer also takes place.
Abstract:
A cutting blade 16, and a method of securing the blade 16 in a reamer 11 having an axial recess 19 in the body 13 of the reamer. The cutting blade 16 has parallel serrations 35 in its rear face 37 extending normally of each cutting edge 34 and is clamped to mutually interengagable parallel serrations 36 on the reamer 11 which extend radially thereof. The cutting edge 34 of the blade 16 is adjusted to a new position by movement of the blade along the radial serrations 36 using a single adjuster means 42.
Abstract:
The operating life of the two guide members in a single bit reamer is increased by shaping the peripheral surface of the guide members with a radius of curvature less than the radius of the bore being machined. Contact between each guide member and the bore wall takes place only along a central quest area extending in the lengthwise direction of each guide member. This allows coating of the peripheral surfaces of the guide members with a hard, wear resistant material. Further, the guide members may be fastened to the cutter head by means of a screw situated in a groove extending in the tangential direction along the peripheral surface of each guide member. This increases the lubricating and cooling effect.

Abstract:
A cutting tool of the specified type is to be miniaturized and configured in such a manner that it is suitable for working bores having a diameter of 6 mm and more and for high-speed work with revolving tools. The solution according to the invention provides that the adjustment screws for radially adjusting the cutting plate simultaneously form a clamping means for the form-locking clamping of the cutting plate to the supporting shoulder of the basic tool body.A preferred field of use are precision drills and grinding tools equipped with inserted cutting strips made of a highly wear resistant cutting material.
Abstract:
A method, machine tool and boring bar for machining bores in a series of concentric journals for a camshaft in a cylinder head or block of an engine. The boring bar has an elongate and cylindrical body with a single cutting insert at one end for machining all of the journals one at a time and a plurality of circumferentially spaced and longitudinally extending bearing pads on the body which, when the insert is machining one journal, are received in the previously machined journals to radially constrain and support the boring bar. The other end of the bar is received in a chuck or drive spindle of the machine tool which rotates and advances the boring bar through the journals to machine them. Each workpiece is located and clamped in the machine tool with its series of journals to be machined substantially concentric with the axis of rotation of the insert of the boring bar. The machine tool alternately rapidly advances and then slowly in-feeds the boring bar through each of the journals at the desired feed rate to machine it. After all the journals are machined, the boring bar is rapidly retracted and withdrawn from the workpiece.
Abstract:
A rotary tool for outer working of rotation-symmetrical workpieces has a cutting head formed as a hollow body having a side wall and a groove, a cutting device arranged in the groove of the side wall, and a guide for a workpiece, provided at an inner side of the cutting head at least in the region of the cutting device.
Abstract:
A drilling tool comprising a drill head fixed to a rotatable drill shaft is provided with a special guide device consisting essentially of roller bodies (balls or rollers) retained in bearing rings positioned on the drill shaft adjacent to the drill head. The position of the roller bodies can be adjusted so that they bear with selected pressure against the surface of a drill hole thereby plastically working such surface.
