A method of monitoring in real time pressure resistance welding of a cladding tube and an end plug. The method includes: a first step of detecting welding information including voltage, current, and welding force in a process of pressure resistance welding of a cladding tube and an end plug; a second step of comparing static factors obtained by calculating effective values for the welding information with predetermined reference values, respectively; a third step of calculating dynamic factors for the welding information including the gradient of instantaneous welding force, when the reference values are satisfied in the second step; and a fourth step of determining whether there is defect or not in welding quality by comparing the dynamic factors.

Forming of a valve head portion (1) of a hollow engine valve (V) comprising a material particularly satisfactory in heat resistance is performed by cold forging. On this occasion, the material with excellent heat resistance is worked to form a valve head portion semifinished product (11) having a hollow hole (S11) whose inner diameter (Φ11) is equal to the maximum inner diameter (Φ11) of a hollow hole (S1) of a finished product of the valve head portion (1), and having a diameter-increased section (111) whose maximum outer diameter (Φ12) is equal to the maximum outer diameter (Φ12) of a diameter-increased section (1a) of the finished product. Parts of the valve head portion semifinished product other than a central part to a lower part of the diameter-increased section (111) are necked down by cold forging performed a plurality of times to obtain the finished product of the valve head portion (1). This method of obtaining the finished product is provided by the present invention.

A welding complex in accordance with the invention comprises a machine for resistance butt welding, means for supporting the end part of the pipeline and holding means including a platform reciprocable axially of the pipeline and a plate with a device for carrying the pipe section to be welded, rotatable by a drive between the positions of loading a pipe section and aligning it with the pipeline. For loading the holding means with the plate rotated into the loading position, by longitudinally displacing a pipe section from the accumulator, the latter is arranged alongside the platform, so that the pipe section it delivers extends at an acute angle relative to the end of the pipeline.

A pipe resistance butt welding apparatus disposable within the pipes to be welded comprises a fixed expanding clamp and a movable expanding clamp, provided with clamping elements and actuating cylinders and intended to fix the pipes to be welded with respect to the apparatus. A cylinder to effect an axial movement of the movable expanding clamp is installed at the end at which this expanding clamp is located; the axial movement provides for drawing together the ends of the pipes to be welded in the course of fusion and upsetting. The cylinder for the axial movement of the movable expanding clamp is coupled with the actuating cylinder of the same clamp and with the clamping elements. The devices making up the apparatus and the cylinders are coaxially installed within a body wherefrom the clamp elements extend outwardly to engage the inner surface of the pipes being welded. Modifications of the apparatus for weld-joining of medium and large diameter pipes respectively are also described.
